Warriors, Sixers Discussing Ellis For Iguodala Trade
Jun 07, 2011 10:09 AM EDT

The Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers have discussed a trade that would send the Warriors' leading scorer, Monta Ellis, to the 76ers for Andre Iguodala, according to league sources, including one with direct knowledge of Golden State's thinking.

One source stressed that completion of the deal is not imminent but that it has merits for both sides.

Ellis is owed $11 million for each of the next three seasons. Iguodala makes $13.5 million next season and the contract increases by $1.2 million each of the next two years.

I would rather have Ellis at 3yrs and $33Mil !!!! He fits in with MDA and fill the PG or SG role which allows us to select a purely defensive guard to help off set. Monta / Melo / Amare ?

$33 mil is very cheap for a player of his skill set. He penetrates, has a midrange and can shoot the 3. Defensive questions are there but with a defensive guard and center with defensive bench players who will come cheaper then offensive players.

That's a great trade for the sixers and a poor trade for Golden State.

its a good trade for GS cuz they aint goin nowhere with 2 midgets at pg and sg who are very similar in terms of strengths and weaknesses. GS would get a big defensive slasher in Igoo. I dont think its great for Philly who has some pretty good guards aleady, but they add shooting which is a need. ME is a defensive liability tho.

I think it's close to fair of trade when you look at personnel and need. Talent wise Monta is clearly the better bargain. I wonder if talks progress if the trade will expand involving other peices?

Offensively perhaps, but I think it evens out if you take defense into equation.

The trio of Williams, Ellis and Holiday will be formidable for some time. AI, althought a capable player, fades on the offensive end. This trade will also elevate Thaddeus Jones' involvement. He's definitely ready!

I agree. I also think with the Jax and Malone coming in the team is going to be focusing more on defense and Iggy is a better fit.

I think this trade will help both teams. Ellis and Curry is redundant. Curry and Iggy makes more sense.

I think Iggy is the better all around player. Good not great on the O but fantastic on the D. Ellis is defintely the better offfenseive player. Iggy's contract is a tough pill to swallow. Philly would take a step back with this one but would save some cash.

If iggy makes Curry better, and Curry makes Iggy better, then its a win win. I think Sixers also benefit.

I like trades like this. Win-win!

The sixers think they want to do this deal but when all is said and done they'll be struggling to figure out why they are losing more games after the trade.
Rose is not the answer.

I see this move as a lateral move for Philly and a nobrainer for GSW. Talent wise, this trade seem pretty equal. But you'd think Philly has learned it's lesson from years of dealing with short combo guards. Holiday, Williams and possibly Ellis? Ellis just doesn't seem like a need for them. This trade, if it goes through, will also say a lot about how the Sixers franchise feels about Even Turner.

The Sixers need a primary perimeter scorer. Ellis fits the bill; AI2 does not. I know a lot of folks aren't too high on Evan Turner, but he needs a chance and I think he'll be all right. Keep one of Holiday/Williams, trade the other, and you have Ellis/Turner/Young/Brand/? and a quality sixth and seventh. Turner had 6 APG at Ohio State
