No.

No offense to Houston but he's a nobody in terms of experience. He has barely worked in management to begin with. I don't think 3 years under Donnie is enough for him to run an NBA team.

Also, he would be a puppet GM for James Dolan. Houston is a nice guy who is friends with Dolan. He would listen to whatever Dolan (and Isiah from afar) tells him to do. And yes, Dolan is the owner. But Dolan knows jack about basketball. That wont stop him from interfering in basketball transactions. It didn't stop him before and it certainly wont stop him now with a no-backbone GM at the helm.

Allan Houston is a no-win situation with this job. Pretty much everyone here on out is.

I'll be honest since Dolan decimated and embarrassed this storied franchise for 10 yrs, I started losing interest and love for the team. As long as Dolan is still owner, I dont see this team going far.

Dolan is a corporate guy who doesn't give a damn about championships. Knicks fans been fooled all along by this guy.

The next GM/PRES will be a yes man type of guy.. IM praying that somehow VERIZON will purchase Cablevision and have the sole possession of the Knicks and we hear the new owner is a diehard sports fanatic. Now that would be a dream come true.

The Future. GO KNICKS!

I have no clue if the guy is good at it or not and nobody here does. It would be a risky move to make. I'd simply say, I don't know.

With that said, if he is good at it, it would actually be a good move not because he's good, but because he is friends with Dolan, so he could get through to the guy. I can see him convincing Dolan to let him do his sheot, more than Donnie did, in that case.

I like Alan Houston and I hope he keeps doing well. If he is ready for the rigors of the NBA GM job then I would like to see him do it with the knicks.

He seems to be well liked around the league and that's a good start for GM success.

Had enough Melo?

I don't see why not. The job isn't about having all the answers. It's about managing your staff. Having a vision and seeing it thru. I think he's been here from the last time this team was great and KNOWS what it took for that team to be as good as it was. He's been under Walsh and i'm sure he's learned a ton about the job. He's a high character guy and seems to be a very thoughtful person. We don't know what any other GM's qualifications are, but at least we know Houston as a player that gave his Knees for this organization!!! Remember he kept playing and pushing when the team needed him and I value that kind of sacrifice in a man. I'd rather a true Knick be given a chance for a change. Some of us are so jaded and really should be ashamed of ourselves that we can't see a guy like this being given a shot after all the other Knicks have been overlooked but this guy has stuck it out all these years. HECK YEAH i'd be OK with it. Guys want Mark Jax without hesitation and he's done NOTHING! When are we gonna stop the self hate. If Kahn can be in his job all these years why not give H2O a shot?

while he may turn out fine, is now the time to take on that type of gamble? if the team was decked out already, maybe, right now it seems like too much to hope he is ready.

GO TEAM VENTURE!!!!!

What is there really left to do? You guys act like we've got some kind of major overhaul to get underway. We've got a few holes to fill and only a few options to actually get that done. No GM gets the job done all by himself. There's a big staff of guys that help to run a franchise and make decisions. It seems to me that now is about the best time to take a chance with a GM prospect like Houston. He's not going to have to make a huge deal right off the bat. Donnie will still be available for "consulting" and I think he and Mike can work together to continue the same process that Donnie was already looking to do. It's not like they don't know what he had in mind already. Donnie can take it easy and just be called to bounce stuff off of. I just don't see it as that big of a gamble.

Walsh worked with Houston but was recommending MJax and Mullin for the GM position.

That is a valid argument. It's a point i'm willing to accept as some level of proof that it may be too soon for Houston. I will add that lots of guys take on the job without a lot of actual experience doing the job.

Allan Houston; he's a smart guy, but I'm not sure he's yet qualified to be the GM of the Knicks. I'm down with becoming GM, though. My first act as GM is trying to find a 7' point guard.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Why would I want a spineless tool of Dolan to be the GM
