according to Selby. Walsh says he did a great job. I'm up in the air with this kid, but being that we are picking at 17, he might be a steal (as some of you had said). He apparently had a VERY good workout with us. Curious...

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2011/06/04/2011-06-04_after_ncaa_suspension_kansas_guard_josh_selby_looked_at_by_knicks_roster_after_g.html

When Josh Selby started college at Kansas, he was widely considered a top NBA prospect.

But one year later, after a freshman season that began with a suspension and ended one game from the Final Four, the 20-year-old point guard just may find himself falling to a Knick team in tumult in the June 23 NBA draft.

And he wouldn't mind one bit.

"I would love to play here," Selby said Friday. "I dream about it. That's always been my dream."

Hours after the Knicks announced that Donnie Walsh would not return as team president next season, Selby and a handful of other first-round hopefuls went through a private workout at the Knicks' Greenburgh practice facility.

Afterward, Walsh told Selby that he had done "a great job."

"I thought today was an A-plus," Selby said.

And that's exactly what the 6-2 floor general needed.

Selby, who grew up in Baltimore and is friends with Carmelo Anthony, saw his reputation collapse at Kansas. He missed the first nine games after an NCAA investigation found he had received "improper benefits" from Robert (Bay) Frazier, a Baltimore product who also served as Anthony's business manager.

He averaged 12.3 points in his first 13 games with Kansas. But he never managed more than nine points in any of the final 13 games after suffering a February ankle injury and finished with season averages of 7.9 points and 2.2 assists in 20.4 minutes. Still, the Jayhawks advanced to the NCAA tourney's Elite Eight, where they were upset by Virginia Commonwealth.

"It matured me a lot," Selby said of his ordeal at Kansas. "I learned how to be a teammate. People know I can play basketball. I just had a bad year at Kansas."

Still, in a draft short on big men, the Knicks could target Selby as Chauncey Billups' eventual replacement.

"(Mike D'Antoni) wants his guards to be able to knock down shots," Selby said, "and I can do that."

According to selby... oh I see what you did there!!!

I'm not sure if a 6'2 shooting guard is what the knicks need.If he was 6'4 it would a no brainier. Honestly who knows, you spend about 8 weeks saying you want x, want x and then the draft pops up they go with the player they have been talking about. And this team does need about 3-4 guys.

Yeah, I did! eheeh But Walsh said he had a very good workout to be fair (to me).

Remember, Selby coming out of HS, which is only last year, was one of the top ranked, if not the top ranked PG. It's a bit too small of a sample size to call Selby a SG. He is at least a combo guard, he can do pg duties part time. He is only 20 I think. Also, I wouldn't let 2" in height make a difference. I like numbers too, but too many great players have come along who didn't quite measure up. Look at how they play, their heart, IQ AND measurements.

True what you say about flip flopping on picks. But it does add a bit of entertainment to this all. Remember when we were all on the Stephen Curry bandwagon and he got picked right before us...

Damn! I thought we could get away with 2 second round buys. Now we definitely need to buy a 1st rounder.

Selby is a BEAST! Great handle, quickness, explosion... He's the kind of player we lack in terms of breaking down a defense and causing havoc. This draft has a lot of untapped talent and I like our chances of coming away with a kid that can actually help us. Selby, Brooks, Shumpert, Morris, Vucevic, Donatas M. etc. There are prospects throughout the draft with good upside and NBA talent.

I'm really happy they like Selby. I think we've been looking for a kid like him for while. I do think he will be more than capable of setting up STAT and Melo despite fears here's only a Combo guard. He at least has shown in the past that he has the kind of court vision and skill to setup teammates. With work I think he could be pretty good. He plays with his head up, not like TD who gets tunnel vision when he's moving with the ball. I think it's cuz he's such a better ball handler. He's also on another level athletically than TD. He's quick and explosive to the basket.

Shumpert is supposed to be a Westbrook type. Lockdown defender with great size and athleticism. He's a blur on the fast break and with great explosion they say. Lacks overall polish on the rest of his game, but a freak athlete and high energy guard.

Nice info Nixluva. I really don't know much about his game. I would sooner take a chance on a flyer than go with a senior that is a bench player at best. We can always sign a bench player.

Any of you guys remember Caddyshack? Tell me Selby doesn't sound a bit like Bill...

Anyone notice a trend with Knick fans?

Whoever is last to be worked out or currently discussed being worked out or moving up the Mock boards they bandwagon the player?

"Yeah I like that Brooks kid he's got Kobe in his game"

"Yeah did you hear that Klay had a good workout even better than Brooks I've got my eyes on him"

"Hey Jimmer's coming in tomorrow...yo he likes our attention to defense we gotta hope Utah and Phx passes on this kid and he falls to us"

"Ahhhhh Selby gets rave review I want him if he's there"

"Oh wait who are we forgetting about, that's right gotta get focused back to D, too many offensive players being bantered about, really Faried is the pick for us guys"

"Well come to think of it D'AnToni's offense can't run without a point guard Billups going in for another MRI, maybe we should just groom a point guard I want us to draft Darius Morris maybe trade down and get another pick supposedly he had a very impressive workout"

"Biyambo is turning all scouts heads at the moment he could be a player who falls out of the lottery because of the numbers game, if he's there we have to take him"

"Oh man the jump to Europe really helped Jeremy Tyler improve as a player and person. I like his maturity and the mocks continue to show he's on the move. Well we really need someone to man the paint and he has so much upside. If he's there hope the Knicks call his name"

Srsly?

I have to keep reminding myself this draft is weak and thin

He's an undersized sg who shot 37.3% from the field. He should go back to college.

Every fan base does that. That's a part of what makes the NBA draft fun. We get a chance to see most of these players on television and that makes us feel that we have some ownership over the pick. It's not like the NFL draft where I'm lost near the tail end of the second round or the MLB draft where I have no idea who any of the players are from year to year.

Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

That's cool hon in on a couple players(based on needs/principles) but stop with the Flava O D Day ownership of who's being discussed as if they have been in the personal fold all along.

So you're saying we shouldn't take a kid with tremendous star potential cuz he had a less than stellar freshman year in college? Let's teak into account that he had a 9 game suspension and an injury that slowed him down. The kid is 6-3, 195 with a 42" vert and sick ball handling skills. Melo loves this kid and Chauncey has been working with him. Don't underestimate the fact that the Knicks are VERY familiar with him and whether he's really good or not.

Watching the videos, he sure is an athlete. Watching the interview I wonder how smart the kid is - I don't mean to sound judgemental and the kid is only 20 but does anyone know about his BBIQ? The PG needs more BBIQ than most other positions and I think we saw Westbrook getting by on athleticism and then making bad decisions late in games.

Again, Selby has home run potential. You could imagine what a pain in the as s he would be with Melo and Stat out there as well. He could break down defenses almost at will.

This situation is eerily reminiscent of the Brandon Jennings saga... Jenning slipped because he's a dummy, whereas Selby slipped because

The NCAA apparently had a problem with Selby’s longtime association with Robert Frazier, who is Carmelo Anthony’s business manager and fellow Baltimore native. Selby’s family had always maintained that Frazier was merely an advisor, but the NCAA deamed otherwise.

Also, he was Rivals' number one high school recruit.

Not really 100 percent certain if I would draft him or not... but I definitely won't be upset if that happened

I watched a fair bit of NCAA hoops this year, and I can't speak intilligently on that. I don't think anyone can unless they watched him play HS ball, given how his freshman year played out

Eric Gordon was a popular comparison heading into the year. I don't think he was ever asked to be a pure point guard though... more or less asked to fill the LeBron James role of initiating the offense and being THE guy. And I think he has more PG acumen than Gordon had

I do think he's got enough talent and ability to get Amar'e and Melo the ball. Playing behind Chauncey and having Amar'e and Melo as targets should help him to learn that part of the game

Watching that video, this kids read and react abilities are crazy. If he's there I say we take him but I've said that about at least 2 other prospects as well. I wish we could get more picks but I guess thats not going to happen now that Donnie is gone, right?

He has a ton of talent. Hasn't put it together becaus eof off-the-court issues. But his off-the court issues don't seem to be of the "he's a bad person" variety. He's not a true point and not a true off guard, but he has as much talent as anyone in this draft. Certainly a risk, but it may be worth taking with the type of talent on the Knicks. It isn't as though we'd be asking him to learn from Stephon Marbury

This won't be Brandon Jennings II. Like I said the Knicks have all kinds of inside info on the kid. Melo has known him for a while and Billups is working directly with the kid.

One thing you have to love about Selby is his size, at 6'4 he gives ua a big pg. He's about the same size as Darius Morris so you have to look at whta separates the two. Selby is the better athlete, scorer but from what I've seen of Morris, he's a better passer and looks to have more of a pg mentality.

But who is the better fit for us especially looking at the teams (Heat, Celts, etc) ahead of us. I think we need a third scorer at some point and right now we are not getting that from the 2 (Fields) or the 5(?). Selby would give us that third scorer at the point, similar to Billups. If Fields is in the future plans, Selby might not be a bad look at all. Personally, I wouldn't mind the Knicks taking a long look at Brooks.

My top three at 17 are:

M. Brooks
Selby
Morris
