just got this:

The following is a statement from James L. Dolan, executive chairman, The Madison Square Garden Company, regarding the New York Knicks.

“Following a long series of discussions regarding his future role with the New York Knicks, Donnie Walsh and I have mutually agreed that he will be leaving his position as president, basketball operations of the Knicks at the end of June. Donnie will remain with the team as a consultant for the 2011-12 season. In a relatively short time with the Knicks, Donnie made a tremendous impact, which will be felt for many years to come. We thank Donnie for his leadership, hard work and many contributions to the revitalization of the team.

“We will now begin an immediate search for a new president and general manager, but do not have a timetable for the decision. Glen Grunwald, the Knicks' senior vice president, basketball operations, will serve as interim general manager beginning in July, overseeing all player transactions. With some of the NBA’s premier players, an outstanding coach and one of the league's most passionate and loyal fanbases, we are extremely confident about the future of the Knicks franchise.”

Meanwhile Isola wrote an article just days before stating DW had issues/concerns about his head coach and was skeptical of sticking around. Yet Knick fans bash this guy to no end on his reporting

This is no catastrophe unless Dolan makes D'Antoni the GM.

Who thinks Donnie was over-ruled by Dolan on the Melo trade, and Donnie doesn't want to deal with that type of stuff anymore. I do.

horrible news... jackie mcmullen is on sportscenter right now and speculates it might be more walsh-health related than dolan not wanting him back. either way, it's horrible news for this franchise.

makes the Knicks look bad to every other GM and Coach out there. Why come here if there's any comparable situation with a well run franchise?

That's probably DW's out masked over underlying legitimate reasons. Remember he kept saying all the way to season's end he wanted to see this thing through to the end. But he also made statements like "I left the franchise in a better position than where it was before I got here".

Sounds like an old man who was fed up with the spoiled brat Owner

I'm real sorry to see Donnie go but I am glad that it means that D'Antoni is probably gone. Adelman might be a good fit but I wouldn't rule out Mark Jackson getting the job. Its Dolan's call. Maybe Donnie wasn't going to get the freedom to run the team the way he wanted, again.

Thanks for making the Knicks relevant again Donnie.
