I think it's about time someone made a thread on this.
Do you guys think if we offer the Bobcats enough incentives they would actually bless us by Taking Houston off our books?
Houston would actually be perfect for them as he would be excellent Trade bait for a team looking to cut salary for the Spring of '06.
'06 being the year they plan to be the biggest players in the Free Agent Market.

Here are the Rules (pasted from RealGM):
Each of the 29 existing NBA teams can protect eight veterans from the expansion draft.
Any player not protected, who is under contract to an NBA team, is available to the Bobcats.

The Bobcats may not draft a player who isn't under contract to the NBA, even if an NBA team holds his draft rights.

NO. OF SELECTIONS
The Bobcats must draft a minimum of 14 players off other rosters. Since no existing team can lose more than one player, the maximum the Bobcats can draft is 29.

FREE AGENTS
Teams don't have to protect their unrestricted free agents. The rule is slightly different for restricted free agents,
(for which a team can match any other team's contract offer).

If a restricted free agent is left unprotected, the Bobcats can draft him. However, that player would then become an unrestricted free agent - with no obligation to play for the Bobcats.

The team that lost him would be barred from re-signing him in the summer of 2004. Restricted free agents would count against the minimum 14 selections Charlotte will make in the expansion draft.

I want to see both Allan Houston AND Keith Van Horn left unprotected in the Bobcats' draft. I said that same thing when this season first started.

Yo Vec, next time justr edit the post instead of creating a new one. You can change the formatting from there and re-post the same entry with the edits intact.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

there is a greater chance that KVH would be exposed and selcted by the Bobcats.

Who do we replace him with? We will still be over the cap.

Most of you sound like robots! What are you getting rid of houston for? Cuz he dont growl? and act like a guerilla? Like I said before, most claim Al is one dimensional. Then criticize based on their one dimsional view of basketball. You now have the best backcourt in basketball. But you genuises want to break that up now! How stupid. And put who at the 2? Yea right they come A dime a dozen. The ones that jump up and down and do nothing but dunk and make noise! Give me a break. YAll thought Houstons contract was gonna stop you from getting a player. You now have 5 max players. so you were wrong about acquiring players. get off the Houston thing. you sound like a fool to a real head like me! You would have a nobody 2 guard and still be over the cap! The cap is bogus and so are the people calling for Allans head. Every night. He is going to end up the knicks 2nd all time leading scorer. Not bad for a one dimensional, soft, over paid player. A dime a dozen? yep somebody said that! And thats what we deal with on All these forums. The bottom line is H20 deserves respect for the way he plays, the shots he makes and the way he carries himself. Some will argue the complete opposite. And I am Always confused. Because we are supposed to be watching the same team.

hopefully he plays well so that we can trade him even faster. The problem is him and van horn are good 3rd best players. Thats why we really need Rasheed.

i am with you in saying that allan sometimes do not get the respect he deserves. he is still a good player who, in my opinion, is the best shooter in the league. but lets be honest, his body is breaking down. it is not like curry who withstood the test of time becuase he never had nagging injuries. houston has nagging injuries. back and knee problems will not go away probably for the rest of his career. i hate to say it becuase i love houston to death( enough that i actually WENT to the movies to watch that garbage of a movie " black and white" a few years ago) but if we traded him or let him go i would completely understand. i am appreciative of what he has done for the knicks. but if it is time for him to go, it is time for him to go. its a business.

We can't just let H20 or KVH go w/o a plan to dump enough salary to get under the cap so we can sign quality replacements. Some of you post as if it's your money the Knicks are spending.

There is *NO WAY* NO WAY* NO WAY* that H2O would be selected--NONE.

Why would a start-up team spend HALF their cap on a 33 going on 34 year old player with knee problems and a 20mm$ salary? I can tell you--they wont.

The best way to build the Bobcats is like this

They CAN take on some contracts and subsequently waive the player for an asset--like a young player or draft pick--they are responsible for the remainder of the contract--and they can do that up to 45mm

Lets say they are able to acquire 3 more first round picks for 20mm in salary[or around there] and draft mostly younger guys with potential and small contracts. Look at memphis--they are deep but can only protect 8--so Charlotte is able to get picks--lets say 4 9 15 19 draft 8 young players with contracts under 15 culmulative--to go along with the 20 they took on in vet contracts--that gets them up to around 40mm--which is where where I would want to be. The following year you have another very high pick and massive salry cap space for fA and you could be real good by year 2. Taking H2O makes 0 sense and will NOT happen--in fact unless they take harrington[expiring contract low salary] i dont see them taking any other player because they will protect williams and sweetney.

as for the knicks you DONT want to protect H2O because they wont draft him and if they did for some unkown reason, well I dont think it would be a bad thing going forward--he is getting OLD quickly. But it will NEVER happen.

the knicks will protect
Marbury
Sweetney
KVH
Thomas[if he is resigned]
Williams
Harrington[ending contract]
Deke[ending contract]+Doleac[if resigned?]
unprotected will be
H2O
Penny
Andersen
Norris

demarr who knows??

Its lucky that you not the gm. DOn't post again if your going to post things like protecting Penny. Not that the Bobcats select him anyway but why would you protect a bench player with a max contract?
