Haven't heard much talk about these two anymore. Is it a near certainty that the new CBA will preclude either of these two All Star points from joining?

With all this talk of drafting a PG at 17, it does not sound like we're still keeping the CP3 or Deron options open.

We better be. Especially if we want to compete with Miami. This team desperately needs a floor general, leader, and distributor.

How can "we" be after anyone when Donnie Walsh is still unsigned?

It's going to be difficult to get a 3rd superstar here. Unless we buy a bunch of late picks to supplement the roster and/or sign a bunch of 1 year contracts to stay under the cap, which is not set yet, we are not in play for any of them.

Internet thread momentum is interesting. Rumors and discussions take on an air of being legit after while and we believe it.

To comment on the question, I believe that its rare for a player to put to risk multigenerational wealth when able to sign an extension. Chris Paul has ownership issues in front of him but I can't imagine he is not being asked to sign an extension and if he refused then will be traded off season. Dwight Howard has one year, then one player option at max money (might not be there if he walks) and a two year extension on the table. Melo had some big damn money infront of him too.

Does Deron really want to jepordize this? Is playing for a championship worth 10? 20? 40? Million when you might never get there or just as likely you do it by staying?

I think the game plan needs to be draft and acquire shooters. You go hard after Deron Williams. Paul shoulders too much of the load and has had too many injuries.

I find it hard to believe that with the Nets locked into guys like farmer, outlaw, morrow; lopez coming up for an extension that he would really want to be there. Factoring in endorsements and the ability to finaly get the credit he deserves Nationally it's a no brainer to take a little less and make more in the long run.

You have guys like Douglas, Fields, Williams who are good bench guys, let's see what we have with Jerome Jordan, this years pick and possibly adding a selection in late rounds and I think it's possible to get him to take less.

They don't take less to be in NY do they?

Brooklyn is not OK or Milwuakee.

The Russian is gonna make this a big splash. Deron is in NYC.

I think the way the way the Melo deal came down and the way he pushed to play with the Knicks that there is a pack with CP3, Melo and STAT...I think these guys think they can make up the salary difference with endorsements if they win rings...Melo is doing a reality show...I like CP3 even with the injuries...I think he is the best point guard in the league and wants to be on a stage, he proved that in the playoffs...Kobe couldn't cover him...

You think CP3 is going to take less than what Melo and Amare is making?

Yeah...I think Paul can get 15-16 and be good with it...I think he will benefit from NY endorsement-wise as well...If these guys win a ring in NY, I think deals will be thrown at them...

I think the CBA's going to put them out of the sweepstakes in free agency, so I think a third superstar should be secondary to whatever they're going to do to fill out the roster to win with Anthony and STAT.

They're friends. Maybe they restructure their deals to make it happen (much like the tres amigos did in Miami).

I don't think you can restructure a deal you've already signed with a team.

Why not? Players sign extensions all the time. Maybe all the deals get worked out together. I bet there is something the studs can do to accomodate CP3 joining them.

I don't think there has ever been a restructure in the NBA.

You're not restructuring an existing deal when you sign an extension. You're just adding onto the existing deal. In other words, no aspects of the years of the contract that you and your team previously signed are changed when you sign an extension.

How does taking the absolute max equal them taking less? Who is taking less? I don't see anyone taking less.

Rose is not the answer.

I am suggesting that the financials of the three contracts may be malleable in order to accommodate beating Miami and progressing to the Finals. Whether we work something out to add an elite PG (Williams or CP3) or we go another route, the ultimate plan must be geared around beating everyone in the EC.

With Walsh gone we can forget about CP3 and Deron. We're going to throw as much money as the CBA lets us at the first guy who can shoot. Allan Houston, Joe Johnson here we come.
