I saw that a week or so ago and thought, no way, not possible. They could never implement it with all the teams over the cap. I really don't know where the talk came from. It makes no sense in so many ways if you think about it.

if the owners seriously ask for anything like this - the league is toasted for years. there will be a year or more lockout and they will the kill league when it is at its most successful moment since the jordan/bird/magic days. idiot owners.

The only way this becomes plausible is in conjunction with a salary rollback

Don't get too caught up in how much money is tied up into these 2 players, they are both top 10-15 players in the league. Also, they are the only 2 players we have money tied up in period. Name another team in the league that doesn't have any money tied up into non-all stars? I would say from that perspective we are in the best cap situation in the league.

Exactly! All the players will have to reduce there salary and max would be like 10mil. While most others will be looking at the mid level range and lower range.

I am not optomistic that we will avoid a lockout or that there will be basketball in the NBA after the NBA championships. If there is a lockout there will be no summer league or is that before the CBA expires? And will there be any free agency period or player movement.

The strike shortened season was 12? years ago. That is the best we can hope for perhaps. That we will get a late start and play enough games to make the season meaningful

If they implement a reduced hard salary cap, I'd imagine that salaries will be scaled down respectively.

That is how it is going to work, and yes, the owners want it, and no, the players are not going to accept it.

If there's a hard cap, it needs to be higher, not lower, than the soft cap.

What would max contracts be? Like 8 mil a year?

A realistic hard-cap is probably close to 80 million and would have to be grandfathered in over a few seasons.

The players will never accept a hard-cap, though, so nobody should worry about it.

there should be a high hard cap, but no guaranteed contracts, and a 16 man roster, and true D-league teams.
