7'1, 265. 26 years old. averaging 15/12/2 for the playoffs, really looks comfortable and knows his role. guy just makes heady plays, in the last minute he had a huge o-board tip and then made a nice steal on durant in transition.

other than dwight howard, who is this guy behind as a true 5?

noah? younger and better averages.
horford? possibly, marc has a few inches on him though.
bogut? too many injuries the last few years.
ty chandler? probably yes, but long term i'd rather have marc.
bynum? cheap shot artist with a bum knee. rather have marc.
chris kaman? too many injuries.

i honestly think this guy is gonna be a top 5 C next year in the league? is it too late and have i been watching too much grizzlies basketball?

He doesn't fit Mike D'Antoni's "system".

Howard (obviously), Noah, Horford, and Bogut are all better and will be playing the game for about the same length of time. After that, it's a toss up, though I'd take Chandler over him. Bynum is a better player but I can't stand his attitude and he's hurt all the time.

I might alos put Nene and Al Jefferson on that list. I'm a Gasol fan, but I'm always leery of ranking guys after they've had a few big games in a short series. A guy can look Wilt Chamberlain if he gets the right matchup.

fair enough on small sample size -- this may be indicative of whats to come or you're right, it may just be a good matchup for him.

jefferson is like 6'8 or 6'9. gasol is a legit 7 footer.

nene has never averaged more than 8 boards a game. marc averaged 9 a game last year. if i'm looking for a C i want size, rebounding, and shotblocking.

I do think Nene is a bit overrated, but he deserves consideration. I do think Big Al is the superior player but I think of him as a talented player without a true position... he's a PF that plays like a C. But if you want to tell me he's a Center then, yes, I'd say he's better than Gasol

You're right about Nene's rebounding...the numbers don't lie. I choose Nene because he's a bit more versatile. You can plug him in an uptempo or halfcourt game. But I like Marc better than Nene in a halfcourt game. I'll take either one at this point tho.

Remember Jerome James? This guy is looking good in the playoffs but you have to be careful. I remember thinking he would have a breakout year and really solidify himself as a top-tier center, but for most of the season he wasn't very impressive. Even against the knicks this year he didn't look so good.

Marc Gasol has actually put up numbers previously. Jerome James played one series of decent basketball. His career PT averages to that point were 17 MPG. His foul rate was incredibly high. The only reason I remember this sis because at the time I posted at Real GM and repeated that over and over and over again, when I was explaining to their moderators why the were ****ing morons (NLR, specifically... please note that a couple of RGM mods know there ish, like uk's own tkf--but I prefer to think of him as uk poster).

LOL sometimes i wonder if people feel compelled to do a google search before just spewing completely unfounded nonsense.

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/3206/marc-gasol

gasol averaged 15/9/1.6 blocks as a 25 yr old.
this yr his #'s went down to 12/7/2, but his playoff averages are 16/13/2.

jerome james never averaged more than 6 points or 5 rebounds for a season.
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/jerome_james/career_stats.html

his "big playoffs" came as a 30 yr old where he averaged 12/7/2, which is what gasol averaged for the season this year. so gasol's floor is jerome james' ceiling, and gasol is 4 yrs younger than james was when he did it.

i do remember jerome james; marc gasol is not jerome james.

Marc Gasol is #2 in true centers right now only behind Dwight.

woudl've been nice to offer him 14mm / 4 years....but due to the CB option pickup, we've got the slowest PG in the league and no shot at any decent center for the foreseeable future

Someone who understands MDA. MDA would render Marc Gasol a 15-20 minutes players in his system. With Amare getting the load of the minutes at center and Shawne Willaims getting big minutes at PF.

yeah since jared jeffries is an offensive juggernaut.

jared jeffries can motor up and down the court. gasol is a plodder.

plodder don't fit in mike's system.

I come back from vacation to see Mike D'antoni still as head coach of the Knicks.

Does Walsh even care about this offseason?

Mda won't be going until we get a big man that can protect the paint like Dwight Howard andshoot the 3 like kyle korver. If he can't do the former Mda will have an excuse for not having a defensive scheme apart from hoping the other team misses when they are 'in rhythm' . If not the latter he'll drag us down offensively when he's camping outside the arc.
