From the NY Times:
DERMARR JOHNSON, a 6-foot-9 forward, has played only six minutes in two games in his Knicks career, but the team appears inclined to sign him to another 10-day contract starting Thursday. Johnson is making his way back from breaking his neck in a car accident in 2003.

I think he will be signed for the rest of the year after all his 10-Day contracts are used up. Glad to see it too. He didn't get much of a chance on offense, but he looked decent enough on D. A long athletic SG/SF for the Knicks in a couple of years....I hope so.

I believe that DeMarr will pan out. He will come in handy during this stretch run to/through the playoffs.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Logically speaking, what rate player is DeMarr @ SG? Can he be an Elite (Which he was supposed to be with atlanta) or can he be WAY ABOVE average, or ABOVE AVERAGE or just average?

Lets say Kobe, McGrady, Iverson, Pierce are the elite
Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Stackhouse, Cater, Ray Allen, are WAY ABOVE AVERAGE
Sprewell, Finely, Jason Richardson, Manu Ginobli are above average.

Is Demarr capable of being ranked with these guys, EVER?

i seriously doubt anyone can answer that question with a straight face. after the accident, only time can tell. i'm not talking about any 10 day contracts either, i mean long term. good for him i wish him luck.

Subjective, like all rankings ... I don't think he'll ever be the first option. Perhaps a good back up.

More realistically, could DerMarr do what Kerry Kittles does for the Nets--- play long defense, move the ball and make plays (and occassionally go for 25+ppg)?

To get a gauge of what he was projected to be: He was drafted ahead of the following wings in the 2000 draft:
Jamal Crawford (8), Courtney Alexander (13), Desmond Mason (17), Quentin Richardson (18), Morris Peterson (21), DeShawn Stevenson (23), Lavor Postell (39), Michael Redd (43!)

Many of these guys have had pretty decent levels of success (with the exception of Postell). Two wings picked ahead of DerMarr are Darius Miles (3) and Mike Miller (5)...

Found this article in the Ney York Times, it will be in tommorow's paper. It states that Demarr Johnson was signed for the rest of the year, plus also very interesting stuff about his life

Demarr was rated higher than those he was picked ahead of, If he is healed and he and the doctors say he is, then Demarr has the chance to become a very good player, now his potential was one of a Allstar player but he is still very young, only 23 years old and who knows, I hope he reaches that potential with the knicks..

The kid can be a star. The question is whether the Knicks will give him sufficient PT to prove it.

In the game against the Mavs where he got some decent minutes... He seemed very agile and quick. He did'nt seem to be straining or holding back in any way... It was nice to see him look so comfortable despite that accident. I'm glad we are looking to keep him for the rest of the season.

i saw play him....he can't be worse than Shandon. I would only bring Penny of the bench so that our bench doesn't completely suck, but I would start Demarr.

Well, there's our athletic young prospect. I don't want to bring up the Kerry Kittles reference again, but after spending 2 seasons with various knee ailments (part of the reason for Marbury's lack of success in NJ), when he came back, the Nets proclaimed it was almost like getting another lottery pick on top of adding Kidd/Collins/Jefferson and a healthy K-Mart.
