I think Mayo is in the wrong system, Memphis is going to re-sign Marc Gasol and seems to love Tony Allen (who wouldn't?). It seems like Mayo doesn't fit into their future plans. Offer them Toney Douglas as an affordable backup guard who can score and maybe Turiaf as an affordable back up big man - throw in $3M bucks.

I think Mayo would prosper in this system. I think he could turn into that explosive scoring guard this team so dearly needs.

I would also offer Chauncey Billups to the LA Clippers for Chris Kaman and Eric Bledsoe. Billups is the steady hand the Clippers need to reach the playoffs, and would complement Mo Williams in the backcourt there, who is more of a combo guard.

While I'm at it, here are the other realistic moves I think can be made:

Billups + $3M cash for Kaman + Bledsoe

Turiaf + Toney + $3M cash for OJ Mayo

Sign TJ Ford to some form of the veteran's mininum or if there's an MLE

Use pick 17 to draft Kenneth Faried

(i'd also fire d'antoni and bring in mark jackson, but I assume that can't happen until the summer of 2012)

Bledsoe / TJ Ford / Anthony Carter
Mayo / Fields / Walker
Melo / Shawne
Amar'e / Faried / Jeffries
Kaman / Jerome Jordan

I don't mind OJ Mayo the player but his salary is toxic for his talent level (but I could be off on that, don't watch him a lot). $5.6M next season followed by $7.3M the next - lots of dough for his production.

Then again maybe he'd perform up to his salary here in this system. Tho crzymdups thought we should bring in M Jax, which to me would be a bad move. I think his ideas are pretty good overall tho. I like the idea of Mayo here and Kaman is a C that would thrive in this system.

none of these trades are realistic at all.

Our chips are our 1st round pick
TD
Fields

LA and Memphis get nothing in return and our only shot at getting these player would at least cost us our 1st round selection, Jerome Jordan + Billups for Kaman
I am not sure if TD + Fields would bring us back Mayo.

Kaman is an expiring as well, if he had 2-3 more years, with the way Deandre Jordon is developing, I can possibly see what you are going at.
Mo WIlliams has a player option but no way they give us Bledsoe on to it. I also can not see the Clippers trading for Billups for Kaman if Mo Williams stays, it just doesn't make sense for the Clippers.

also, I would have to say that this type of deal is iffy at best and perhaps could be called lopsided. Bledsoe is key, and he is on rookie contract and LAC love him. Why give up a big man whom they need after Blake and DeAndre - aren't they thin after that - and a young guy for an expiring?

LAC just got Mo Williams locked up for 2 more years at $8M per and he is a good enough mentor for Bledsoe and it would seem to me Billups is wasted $.

Doesn't make sense from LAC perspective IMHO

I like it... I have always thought very highly of Mayo's talent and think he can be a bigtime player in this league. He strikes me as a guy who needs some freedom. He's got a very fluid game and is a very tough competitor. He's got some playmaking skills and a lightnight quick release on that jumper. I think he's a great fit and Memphis will be looking to cut some costs. Douglas is a really good fit off that bench with Toney Allen.

Kaman scares me because he's got injury bugs, but I will says this.... he will be available. Jordon will be kept there. LAC will match any offer for him as they see him and Griffin (also best friends) playing the 4/5 for the next decade together. Kaman could be had for Billups expiring and parts. Might cost you Fields, but he's not a great fit with Melo here and his game is overrated here anyway. In fact he's only here because Spike Lee told Dolan not to trade him when we should have kept Mosgov.

Kaman's game fits very well next to Amare. He's quite athletic and a great finisher.

I would be pretty happy as these two as complimentary pieces.

I would much prefer OK4 over Kaman though, even better would be an OK4/Ariza package. I think NO would be temped to move both of their large and long term deals which would clear huge space to add another max guy the year CP3 is a FA.. We could offer something like Billups/Turiaf/Fields/Jerome Jordon. That would give them some pieces that would keep them from taking a huge step back. Knicks get the bruiser to protect the paint and work the glass (OK4) along with the elite wing defender (Ariza) they really need.

Assuming you make another deal and your looking long and hard for a PG but here's your starting point:
PG Douglas
SG Ariza 6'7
SF Melo 6'7
PF Amear 6'10
C OK4 6'10
bench: Shawn Williams, Rautins, you fill out the rest

People want defense? Go get guys that play it. Thats my vision for this group.

Mayo/Kaman? I would look at that as a good plan B.

That's my contention. People are surprised we don't defend when our 2 best players are STAT and Melo. I think adding a real banger is a MUST and it would totally change the way this team plays in terms of defense. This team's initial D is actually not bad, but not being able to finish off possessions cuz we can rebound is our biggest issue. A few more defensive rebounds would make a huge improvement. I was all for the CP3 & OK4 deal some were posting earlier in the year. I thought that would address both of our biggest needs, tho some weren't too fond of the trade idea.

Think the Knicks should wait on making deals, only adding players with the MLE. The way the playoffs are going and with the lock out looming, there is a chance teams could want major sake ups next year leading to the trade deadline.

The nice thing about acquiring Kaman and Mayo - Kaman expires in 2012, just like Chauncey. Mayo could be a chip in any trade if he doesn't work out here and starts putting up numbers for D'Antoni.
