![]() If there is actually contraction as some owners have said to favor there would likely be a supplemental draft of the players on those rosters that were disbanded. Not really seeing this contraction thing happening though. More like teams moving.
New Orleans has suffered grievous harm from the oil spill and recent hurricanes The dredging that keeps the port open costs the state of Louisiana acres of land. The Mississippi River delta is disappearing. One of America's most vibrant and productive ecological regions is slipping into the Gulf of Mexico at an alarming rate. Every year, a chunk of land nearly as big as Manhattan crumbles and washes away. As it erodes, it not only threatens one of the country's most abundant fisheries and a vital home for wildlife, but it imperils the nation's energy supply. In short if the Mississippi were allowed to run properly and build wetlands and coastline as it has for centuries New Orleans would be a backwater and the levees that are being dynamited would not even be needed. Perhaps it would even bury the spill. http://www.pbs.org/now/science/neworleans.html Another team mentioned was Memphis. Not sure how them making the playoffs will affect things. the owners pretty much want protection from themselves and the players at this point have disbanded the union. Some of what the owners are asking for seems quite reasonable to me. look for the league to at least try to impose a personal conduct policy with some real teeth. A good first step would be to spell out specific circumstances -- a felony conviction, for example -- under which a contract can be voided by a team. In two words "Gilbert Arenas" Not a lawyer but without unions behind them players are bringing suit against the NFL. In the case of the NBA it would seem Dolan could sue/void the EC's of the world for "failure to perform" Anti-trust...yada yada And in a time when the NBA next fall wouldn't have to compete with the NFL if they can get it together. everybody loses money in a lockout the legal stuff makes my head spin. there is an older but pretty complete document @ http://basketball.about.com/od/nbateams/ss/Nba-Lockout-101-The-Issues-The-Arguments-And-The-Nbas-Uncertain-Future.htm The 2011 NBA free agency period is very much in limbo with the potential of a lockout looming. http://www.thesportsbank.net/nba/2011-nba-free-agent-shooting-guards/ Picks may go for a higher price this year. Bill Simmons on Tyreke Evans
"The prototypical 0-guard: Someone who handles the ball all the time, looks for his own shot, gets to the rim at will and operates best if his teammates spread the floor to watch him."
