I know we can't trade our pick now, but can we trade it on draft night? If so, we need to look at dealing the pick for an established young player who we know will contribute rather than taking a chance on a rookie. One option would be trading our pick, Turiaf, and cash for OJ Mayo. Many people have said he is perfect for our system, which he is. For Memphis, Turiaf provides them a solid backup center which they don't have. Also, they can use the pick for depth at either the SF or PG position which they need. And the cash is a positive for them as they are financially strapped. Who says no? Are there other options that can should look into trading our pick for?

Im down with that. We need help NOW.

OJ Mayo is best because we'd have Billups tutoring him.

I think the Knicks have to select a player. After that I believe they could trade him.

Maybe, but i'm assuming they can select the player for the other team.

This team needs a center and a point guard, not OJ Mayo.

Word, let's address areas of actual need first, then upgrade the 2 spot.

We will have all summer to address needs. We need to get better when we have the opportunity to regardless of position.

Although BPA makes sense- the fact is if there is a ready to play 7 foot stiff who can board and hold his own on defense, you have to grab him.

Unless the BPA is that much better- we have three stars, and while it'd be nice to have assets for the next trade, we need to fill holes and I think the five spot is the largest for us.

the knicks cant trade away their own pick back to back..they traded their 2012 to houston..i believe the knicks would have to draft this pick and keep him to the trade deadline in february 2012

If it is as went down in the NFL there was no free agency period this year and so far no player movement. Other than the draft how do you improve your team? Better make the right pick this year. I should think unless we are into regular season dates and no resolution there would be a trading period. But will there be a Summer League? If not how much impact can a rookie have? Any Griffin's in this draft? Not that I've seen.

not sure this is correct. I think the Knicks can select a player and then immediately trade.

If there is actually contraction as some owners have said to favor there would likely be a supplemental draft of the players on those rosters that were disbanded. Not really seeing this contraction thing happening though. More like teams moving.

New Orleans has suffered grievous harm from the oil spill and recent hurricanes The dredging that keeps the port open costs the state of Louisiana acres of land.

The Mississippi River delta is disappearing. One of America's most vibrant and productive ecological regions is slipping into the Gulf of Mexico at an alarming rate. Every year, a chunk of land nearly as big as Manhattan crumbles and washes away. As it erodes, it not only threatens one of the country's most abundant fisheries and a vital home for wildlife, but it imperils the nation's energy supply.

In short if the Mississippi were allowed to run properly and build wetlands and coastline as it has for centuries New Orleans would be a backwater and the levees that are being dynamited would not even be needed. Perhaps it would even bury the spill.

Another team mentioned was Memphis. Not sure how them making the playoffs will affect things. the owners pretty much want protection from themselves and the players at this point have disbanded the union. Some of what the owners are asking for seems quite reasonable to me.

look for the league to at least try to impose a personal conduct policy with some real teeth. A good first step would be to spell out specific circumstances -- a felony conviction, for example -- under which a contract can be voided by a team.

In two words "Gilbert Arenas" Not a lawyer but without unions behind them players are bringing suit against the NFL. In the case of the NBA it would seem Dolan could sue/void the EC's of the world for "failure to perform" Anti-trust...yada yada And in a time when the NBA next fall wouldn't have to compete with the NFL if they can get it together. everybody loses money in a lockout the legal stuff makes my head spin.

there is an older but pretty complete document @ http://basketball.about.com/od/nbateams/ss/Nba-Lockout-101-The-Issues-The-Arguments-And-The-Nbas-Uncertain-Future.htm

The 2011 NBA free agency period is very much in limbo with the potential of a lockout looming.

Picks may go for a higher price this year.

From my understanding during the night of draft the picks in that draft do not count as future picks. So you can from what I remember.

while I see that - I wonder if the likelihood that many younger players will skip the draft this year to actually stay in school might actually diminish the demand for picks?

And will draft eligible college players actually forgo the draft with the uncertainty? Might this be their best chance to be grandfathered in, or are they going to get screwed by the next agreement?

Regardless- I hope Walsh has already started to line up any potential deals for picks out there.
