in an ESPN 5-on-5 feature thing they had broussard and bucher going back and forth about the magic and spurs and if they needed to rebuild.

bucher said he was making up a complete hypothetical but looking at the spurs squad, parker seems most obvious trade piece. george hill will fill in capably at PG, and parker is the youngest and probably has the most trade value.

bucher then mentioned how the spurs could use a stretch 4 and mentioned shawne williams. the trade he proposed was williams, landry, and toney D for parker.

parker signed a 4 yr 50 mil extension which will start next yr. he would basically mean no CP3 or dwight, but i think you have to make that trade if the new CBA comes out and the salary cap # isn't raised to something in the neighbor of $60 mil (which is where the knicks will need it to be to get a 3rd max guy).

i could see the cap getting raised as a conession to less max money deals but who knows what will happen.

i think it'd be very interesting. move billups over to 2 (which he basically is now, anyway). melo and stat at 3/4. use the MLE on a guy like dalembert and hope you strike gold in the draft with the first rounder.

tony P can run the pick and roll, i'd expect to see a lot more of that with STAT. also he can push the ball so MDA would be able to do his SSOL nonsense with TP.

food for thought...if that deal's on the table do you pull the trigger?

I would do that in a heartbeat, then move Billups for a top SG or Center that is available.

What is the fascination with Parker. I don't like him at all and I always thought he was overrated. This board is always talking about this guy is not a pass first PG while neither is Parker.

I'd take Tony Parker off their hands in a nano-second.

Spurs develop george hill making Parker expendable for trade in his prime and receive good value in return.

Brilliant concept. This is why some teams can continue to succeed over long periods of time. Luck don't hurt mind you.

New York would have to trade Billups in the Parker deal to make salaries match, and they make about the same amount of money, so something like Billups/Fields/Williams is more likely. Parker's a good fit, though.

You're overrating George Hill.

Spurs aren't going to give away Tony Parker when they just had the best record in the NBA. We have to trade our pick, Billups, and Fields or Douglas at minimum.

Even that trade sounds like it's worth looking at if I don't have to give up more, at least in my opinion. You get the championship experience in Parker, who's six years younger than Chauncey and in the same window of his prime as Melo and Stat, and Parker fits the SSOL better than Chauncey because he can run the P&R and penetrate. The team still needs a center and a backup guard and has LESS flexibility, so purchasing draft picks and getting players for the minimum and the MLE would have to happen to complete the roster.

Our third piece has to be absolutely stellar for him to make us into a championship contender. Tony Parker doesn't fit into that category.

Chris Paul on the other hand...

Rose is not the answer.

This really depends on the new CBA. If the new CBA will allow us to have the cap room to sign Paul or Deron next summer once Billups's deal expires, I think you have to wait on that. If the new CBA will not allow us to sign them as FAs, then I think you try to sign a Sam Dalembert for $6 mil a year, and then go all in on a Tony Parker trade. Maybe you can add a Redd for the league mimimum and you would have a team of Parker, Redd, Melo, Stat, and Dalembert. That would be a pretty solid foundation to start from and all your key guys would be under 30.
Trust the Process

We can't pay market value for any more assets. Trading for TP on his existing contract would handcuff this team to 1st-2nd round exits for the forseeable future.
