Dolan is the worst owner in the NBA. A case could be made for Donald Sterling,
but most of the stories on him point to a old racist pervert who doesn't mettle
in the basketball side of things. Fact is, both the Rangers & Knicks have declined
since Dolan has taken a bigger role with both. Coincidence?...In the words of Emma Bull,
"Coincidence is the word we use when we can't see the levers and pulleys."

Dolan & friends have the basketball sense of a neophyte teenage NBA 2K gamer.
Walsh will only return if he's the only bus driver, with no one else touching the
GPS or the wheel. Can Dolan make & keep this promise? If not, expect every
snake-oil selling CAA client to be lined up outside Dolan's door.

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/donnie_near_deal_tURS4PKhvbl6XRhcgAgc5M

"Jim really wants him back and the only issue left is Donnie getting assurances he's in charge of the basketball operations," the league source said.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/27/sports/basketball/27knicks.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

Walsh wants reassurance that he will have full autonomy on basketball decisions — a promise Dolan made when he hired him three years ago.

Walsh wants assurances that he will be the top decision-maker.

One more thing on Dolan & his basketball consultants from the Daily News article:

Walsh was also upset that Dolan hijacked the Carmelo Anthony negotiations and made a deal that Walsh and Mike D'Antoni did not support. Walsh wanted Anthony but not at Denver's asking price.

O'Neil, according to a source, felt strongly that the Knicks should include Raymond Felton in a deal for Anthony.

This just pisses me off because Felton for all his faults really won me over in his short time.
He was a decent floor general. A bulldog on defense that backed down to no one. A warrior that
played through injuries, and he was younger & cheaper than "Big Shot" Billups. To know that
he was included in the deal because of some shmoo used car dealer takes the cake. Hell, we might've
ended up with Deron Williams for pennies on the dollar if it weren't for this fool!

Dolan, give the keys to the Don & step aside.

In the interest of keeping it honest, I for one was very happy Dolan stepped in to complete the Melo trade..Left up to MDA and Donnie, this trade might not have gotten done..Dolan would be a fool to give up the right to over rule trades done the MDA and Donnie..What also scares me going forward is Donnie's loyalty..Does this mean the team will be made over in MDA's image?..Dolan will be a fool to agree to this..No owner in sports would do this..

seriously, who would want Donnie Walsh, a seasoned front-office veteran with a solid resume of NBA success and a law degree, to make decisions when you have Dolan, the drunk son of a millionaire who's single most important accomplishment was getting squeezed out of a wealthy woman's pu$$y? i mean for real now guys. listen to holfresh. he makes sense.

I keep hearing of the stellar track record and resume...How many rings accompany this track record and resume...The thing that I'm thankful for is that Donnie convinced Dolan to get under the cap...Most of the other moves have been pedestrian..

i've followed basketball long enough to escape the narrow-minded emphasis on rings as the end-all be-all indicator of basketball worth. not a lot of rings to go around if you take a look at the history of NBA champions.

and by that same token, you wanna judge Donnie by his lack of rings -- where does that put Dolan? where does that put Melo? i don't see any rings.

this is pretty much the Stephon Marbury argument. "Me and Jason Kidd are the same because neither of us have rings." when you are borrowing logic from Starbury, you are in rare company.

His record is cleaning up the clusterf**k that Isiah made.
His record is under his leadership, the Pacers reached the playoffs 16 of the 17 years he was there.

Ok... he can't be judged on rings...How about moves???...MDA hire..Good hire?...TMAC trade, good move?...Giving 100 mil to a guy with 2 bad knees over 5 years, good move?...Many thought he was a guru getting rid of Craw's and Zebo's contract, really??...Holding up a deal for one of the better players in the league because of Gallo and Mozgov, yes Mozgov...I got some Inidana moves that I don't want to get into but there must be something you guys can hang you collective hats on other than Isiah to make a sound argument...

MDA good hire? Let's see how he does next year.
TMAC Trade? Good move although he regretted giving up the pick. Thsi move freed up the cap space we needed.
STAT - MVP for the 1st half of the season. Suns stupidity is our gain.
Holding up the trade? So what, he was trying to see what he could get away with. The deal got done at the end of the day anyway.

i'm not going to debate with someone who says he prefers Dolan making basketball decisions over Donnie. i mean, that goes in my "unbelievable things i've never thought i'd read on the UK forums" hall of fame. where do you even begin? it's not worth it. we're soooooooo far apart. i can't imagine anything productive coming out of this. maybe if i play it for laughs, but not much else.

My argument has nothing to do with Dolan making moves versus Donnie making moves..It's move to do with Donnie's need for total autonomy...You are right, it's not worth the effort..

i don't get the distinction. you are saying you'd prefer Dolan's judgment over Donnie's. if you don't think Donnie having full autonomy is a good idea, does that not mean you prefer Dolan to be the ultimate decision-maker?

Autonomy to me means Donnie makes all decisions and final decisions...I don't really care about whether it's Dolan or whomever...I don't think Donnie has done anything to deserve autonomy...In my eye, Donnie as not as stellar as many of you might think...He is the author of many bad deals in Indiana...He hasn't done anything here to make me think much has changed...So for me, to allow Donnie and MDA run of the house is a huge mistake....Whether it's Dolan or the other 6 GMs they have in the building to make decisions, allowing Donnie autonomy is a no go...

Donnie can have full autonomy over cable vision as well Seriously...the dude was seriously embarrassed in front of the entire basket ball world during the Allstar game...I can see why he wants a gesture of good faith to save face...at the end of the day...it's still Dolan's team and he can/do whatever he wants with it...that comes with the title "Owner'

Didn't Cashman make a similar demand before he was re-upped?
