We have 5 days to decide.

Don't know what walsh is thinking about next year if he is let go.

Keep for one year at 14mil and hope for cp3
Buy him out and find replacement.

I'd rather forget about CP3 or Deron Williams - I don't see how we can have a shot at signing or acquiring either, unless there are major changes to the CBA that play to our favor.

I'd like to see us get as many draft picks this year, and get some young guys that can fill out the roster & potentially develop into good players.

And maybe with our free cap space, this year we could sign an up and coming player - someone like a DeAndre Jordan.

But, chances are Billups is kept for a run next year, and as a place holder on the cap.

we wouldn't have to buy him out. I think his last year is a team option. No way I would keep him on for 14 mil. but I would bring him back for cheaper.

Aside from re-signing Walsh, I think re-upping Billups is the second no-brainer move. Buying him out now doesn't give us that much cap room and what point guards out there are even that much of an upgrade? Billups was adjusting to a new system and was banged up most of the time--but he's still a top player in this league and his steadying influence is invaluable.

Then his $14M salary becomes important as a trade chip especially with a tighter cap in the new CBA or making a run at the far richer 2012 free agent class.

Keep.

I think it's a no-brainer. If we don't use team option, we still have to give him close to $4 million to pay him to go away, meaning we wouldn't have enough cap to get an impact guy.

At worst, we would have a $14 million expiring which would be more value than the alternative. Not to mention, if we lose Billups for nothing, we really won't have anything at the PG position.

Not that I care right now, but you keep him only because his expiring might be useful and maybe, just maybe, this pathetic showing in NY fires him up to prove people wrong about him being finished.

I think you have to keep him for a year. What other options are there? There's not really a lot to decide IMO

keeping him is the only option. If nothing else we will need his expiring contract. The only hope is after resigning him and netting some solid assets in the draft that we are able to package his expiring contract along with some young player(s) for a bigman like OK4 or anyone else who might be available.

i've seen conflicting reports on that... but could memphis really afford to match with Gay, Conley and ZBO locked up long term? i thought their owner was losing money left and right?

Heard a fan call into Maddog radio this morning and its sums up typical thinking.

We use Billups expiring for a trade. They asked him what to trade and he responded "do like the Melo deal"!

Damn, the man don't get it.

Gasol is on the same deal (I think) as DeAndrea Jordan - both second round picks. I think they fall under the Gilbert Arenas of GSW restricted FA status special rule.

But you are right... I have no idea how Grizz owners can pay all of those guys.

it's kind of BS that the memphis owner is one of the guys screaming for a lockout and salary restructuring and in the last year he's given Gay $86M, Conley $45M and he just gave ZBO $71M after game 1 of the playoffs!

if he signs Gasol, he's a complete fraud about this lockout talk.

Let Billups go back to Denver, which we should have done from day one after the trade.

He is the prototypical light bulb on it's way out.

If you go back before each of those players were extended the same thing was said yet they got their money. What rational explanation could anyone come up with as to why they let him go? Especially when they know they can beat any offer and his Max isn't a full Max. This is the same team who tried to trade O.J. Mayo for Monta Ellis(major difference in salary). Lest we forget they dumped Thabeet who was on a high rookie scale salary for an expiring in Shane Battier.

We may have a slim shot at Jordan but Gasol is completely out of the question. Jordan is Blake's best friend on the Clippers so it's slim there too although Sterling can be a numbskull. Trading Baron for Mo was probably a sign of things to come for retaining Jordan.

Three Thoughts

Toney Douglas is not a lead guard. He is a young basketball player who strikes me as stubborn a his Dad. A hard worker but not teachable due to his inflexibility. There were too many time outs where he could be seen talking back to D'Antoni as if he did nothing wrong.

Amare and Melo will respect any guard who delivers the ball with a sense of purpose. They are protecting a fellow veteran out of respect. Deep down, both Amare and Carmelo understand this is a business and this is the business they have chosen.

Rick Adelman is a sidegrade. I do not covet any coach on the unemployment line.

Lionel Hollis is an upgrade. He is making noise and I enjoy his candor during interviews.

IF he is willing to restructure his contract and sign a 2year with a team option on the 2nd.
the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt
