i wasn't alive for the last Knicks title and i don't really know much about that team. so i figured it'd be cool to have the old guard of the UK board drop some Knicks wisdom. i thought it might be interesting to try and assemble the last Knicks championship team with today's players. is Deron Williams a modern-day Walt Frazier? i don't know. but i think the older cats can figure it out and if so, it could give an interesting perspective into what this old team was like for the younger cats to have some comparisons to go on.

Dude unfortunately I am that old. Frazier was awesome. Think table setter, clutch, played defense. Not a bullet though. 6'4". Not like Chris Paul or Stockton. Don't know. Deron Williams maybe but Clyde played better defense.
Earl Monroe was offensive money. A guard who had game! Didn't play defense though.
Let me think about it a little...
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

You just can't replicate Wingo and what he does!

Barnett-Gil Arenas (Post operation) Barnet was older at this time.
Bibby- Bibby! Seriously! Henry was never as good as Son but now about the same.
Bradley-Ray Allen, Ray was much better in his prime than Bradley was ever but 35 year old Ray about as good as bradley was.
Debusschere- Dlee. White guys are white guys! DLee is not the tough defensive player Dave was. Dave had range, could run. rebound and was a double double type player.
Clyde- Monta Ellis if he played better defense.
Earl-No equal! The inside game was Rondo like. dude had long arms and get it done in the paint. Outside maybe Baron Davis?
Like I said no equal.
Jerry Lucas- A rebounding machine! one of the best! Kevin love. both have the outside shot. Lucas in his prime was a great great player. At 6-8 he was no Center but Wilt had to come out and get him in 1973. That hoist type shot was deadly!
Willis- Mcdyess. Willis by todays standards would be undersized at 6-9. I never saw him in his prime other than highlights but Willis in was fast and could fly. Like young Dice. Older Willis was a Moses Malone type grinder. Don't think any exist today. Maybe Zach randolph is close.

There Is One, And Only One, Answer Man

The Championship Knicks were oh so special, there is no equivalent... but I'm always down for some casual entertainment.

(drum roll) "For this next act The Answer Man will defy the experts and tie one hand behind his back and use primarily Knicks as comparisons for the 1973 Knicks"

12 Dick Barnett G-F 6-4 a lefthanded, cold blooded assassin, think Chauncey Billups in his prime, shooting from the corner instead of the top of the key
17 Henry Bibby G 6-1 like father, like son - Mike Bibby in Sacramento
24 Bill Bradley F-G 6-5 a scholar of the game, combine Landry Fields and Allan Houston
22 D. DeBusschere F-G 6-6 an emotional leader, rebounder with tenacious defensive ability, clone Charles Oakley and Antonio McDyess
10 Walt Frazier G 6-4 "yo Clyde, where did you get that suit?" Think Magic Johnson at 6'4, it's his world, we're just living in it
40 John Gianelli C-F 6-10 a critical backup, spot minutes when needed, Chris Dudley - the early years
18 Phil Jackson F-C 6-8 "head and shoulders," don't get too close to those elbows, (both wear beards) Ronny Turiaf with a clean bill of health
32 Jerry Lucas F-C 6-8 a enigmatic all-American center with legit three point range, Dirk Nowitzki, grab a few more rebounds please
7 Dean Meminger G 6-0 handle for days, cool under pressure, think Kenny Smith without the jumper
15 Earl Monroe G 6-3 there is no comparison for the artist known as Black Jesus, think a young Mark Jackson (backing guys down at will) with a dash of Pistol Pete
23 Luther Rackley C 6-10 think Eric Chenowith meets up with Vin Baker's second cousin
19 Willis Reed C-F 6-9 a lefthanded jump shooting center with rebounding skills - Zach Randolph, minus the personal baggage
6 Tom Riker C-F 6-10 Timofey Mozgov, minus the upside and extra inches
43 Harthorne Wingo F 6-6 crowd favorite, when he plays the game is ova, Bill Walker

Didn't know we could clone and blend two players together!

Gotta argue on Clyde. Magic was awkwardly goofy compared to the Smoothness of Clyde. I fyou can blend in two of todays players you go Rondo and Steph Curry. Jax was ugly compared to the artist of "Black Jesus". Earl was body control and quickness. Jax did not have that athletic atributes

Mister, try with todays players and see what you come up with.

I only remember the main guys:

Clyde: Brandon Roy if he were a kleptomaniac PG.
Reed: Cross between Zack and Alonzo.
Monroe: He was so smooth and such body control, maybe a less athletic but more refined Wade.
Bradley: Reggie.
DeBusschere: Lee on offense, Oak on D.
Phil: Garnett without a jumpshot.

Stop with this Dlee=Debusschere comparisons. Maybe as far as hustle but thats it. Debusscherre was a great rebounder(not good, great) plus he had a great outside shot. Dlee became good at shooting from the foul line, Debusschere had legit 3 point range.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate
