Yeah, I had the same reaction, especially for the SG comments. Unless you're a Knicks fan, you're not gonna put Melo ahead of Pierce either.

Just to clarify: You might have them tied (which I would) but no non-Knicks fan is gonna put a future HOFer who's still highly productive behind someone who's team has advanced only once in the playoffs and has a losing career playoff record.

how would you compare the quality of both their games right now?

I think the numbers speak for themselves with these two. Pierce is a much more efficient player but Carmelo puts up bigger overall numbers. My guess is that if you switched Carmelo and Pierce, we'd still be a .500 team and Boston would still be a 55 win team. (That's if Carmelo played at the level he's played at with us rather than before the trade.)

I'd take Melo over PIerce, Stat over KG. Rondo defeintly better than Billups. Center I think big baby beats whatever combo of Jeffries, Turiaf and Williams we throw out there. SG defeintly Allen over fields. The thing is that the Celtics play better as a team. We're going to need our stars to explode on these guys.

Was Pierce a bonafide hall-of-famer before Allen & KG joined his team? If yes, I could say the same for Melo. Since you are citing Melo's team achievements, how did Paul Pierce's teams fair in the scope of league competition prior to those aforementioned ethereal transactions? That was rhetorical. Lastly, do past successes and failures dictate how a certain player will perform at this very moment? Don't be foolish. I don't need to be a Knicks fan to say that Melo is the better player currently and will have the better series.

Some individual stars thrive when joined by other stars; others don't. Because Pierce already has thrived, he has to be placed ahead of Carmelo. That doesn't mean Carmelo won't reach that level but you're comparing a definite to a maybe.

So, are you measuring team success or individual postseason performance? Melo has already played alongside a more ball-dominant personality than STAT in Allen Iverson and managed to average 27 ppg, 48% FG in the first round against the 2006 Spurs, the soon-to-be-champions.

Pierce's "thriving" amounts to 19.7 ppg on 44.1% FG, 21 ppg on 43% FG and 18.8 ppg on 43.8% FG the last three postseasons, and you can expect his numbers to depreciate this series, seeing as how he is a year older and has to expend energy guarding the best scorer in the league on the other end of court. You don't think Melo can do better than that?

Pierce plays defense. Carmelo can play defense when he wants to - which isn't often.

Pierce has also hit countless clutch shots in key moments to win playoff games. Don't get lost in just comparing the numbers without context. Pierce has the nod because of his experience.
Of course, Melo could easily get there, and could very well outplay Pierce. But going in, you have to give the nod to Pierce.

I gotta say Melo's has stepped up his defensive effort the last 7-10 games...Since he has stepped it up, he hasn't backed off..He might even be our best defender...I also think talk of his defense is highlighted because he is so potent on the offensive end...When both are playing defense, Pierce isn't a better defender...

Maybe during the regular season, but Melo plays non-stop defense in the postseason.

He simply hasn't had the opportunities, but he did drill a three-pointer to win Game 3 in Dallas in the 2009 semis.
