The Houston Chronicle reports the Rockets will waive forward DeMarre Carroll on Monday and sign center Marcus Cousin to a non-guaranteed three-year contract.

Carroll was set to become a free agent in July and would not have been re-signed by the Rockets.

Cousin, who was on Utah's roster for 10-days earlier in the season, will be assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, which is the Rockets D-League team.

The Rockets plan to have Cousin on their summer league, if there isn't a lockout.

I think the future of the NBA (and perhaps sports in general) is shorter contracts and/or non-guaranteed contracts. We'll call it "The Eddy Curry Clause" or F.A.T. for short. I'm sure it will push Cousin as he has to work to stay on the roster.

Heard good things about Cousin but it's hard to compare the NBDL with the NBA.

I wasnt high on the guy anyway. We need vets at this point. Young guys arent going to get minutes on this team anyway.
