For me it was two words: Xavier McDaniels. I have followed the NBA as a kid with the likes of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and a young Michael Jordan. At the time I never stuck to a basketball team until that year I think it was 1991 or 1992, I clicked on a NBA playoffs game and the first thing I saw was the score Knicks leading the Bulls and right there was the X-Man giving a fight of a defense against MJ. Right then and there I got hooked. I never looked back. I grew up in Greenwich, CT and it is my hometown team dammit.

In reality, Sweetwater Clifton was at forward, Gallatin at Center, Bechtold. Braun and McGuire, followed by Willie Naulls, Kenny Sears, Richie Guerin, Ray Felix, Walter Dukes. They were the only team in town and I was too young to know any better.

It started with a Clyde and Pearl Poster I saw as a kid. I was also a NY Nets fan cuz of DR J. but after that I stuck with the Knicks and Sixers for a while. After Dr. J left I no longer followed the Sixers. As a Kid you tend to follow the player you love a bit more. As I got older I became much more loyal to one team, but I rooted for the Magic Lakers against the Bird Celtics who I hated.

I can understand that and add some face paint to it in Knicks colors.

My dad would've disowned me otherwise

The first game I went to was 1991 Game 1 against the Celtics. Last row of the blue seats. I was young and chanted "LET'S GO KNICKS" instead of "BOS TON SUCKS". The guys in front of me thought this was funny and kept trying to feed me beer. Good times

How could you not love Clyde's commentary and color?

I did watch the Knicks championship run. Yeah that dates me. I wasn't really a fan then though I did enjoy watching them. Over the years I've really been more about players than teams. I've in my time watched Gilmore, Cowens, Clyde, Mr Reed, Jabbar, Barkely, Olajuwon, Dr J, MJ, Pippen, Kobe, Magic, Bird, Ewing, Walton and many others. I watched a few ABA and a lot more NBA games but have been mostly a college fan since the strike.

I watched Ward, Sura and Cassell as well as the run that both JU and FSU had to the NCAA championship against UCLA. I was young then teens.

My favorite pro team was the Bird, McHale, Parrish, Ainge, Johnson ;-) Then 'Chahlie' and Cassell and Sura came along. I watched the Ward years when Ewing and the Knicks competed against the Heat and Bulls I disliked MJ and the Heat obviously since I was rooting for the Knicks.

Now I've been a fan of Toney Douglas for about 5 years now. And the Knicks are again my fav pro team.

In '72 or '73 I was sitting behind the Baltimore bench when the Knx were blowing them out. Said to Gene Shue-"How 'bout a victory cigar?" He never looked back just half turned in his seat with his hand extended and got the cigar. Things were a little mor ecivil back then.

I like to root for the home team, so i did when i moved to ny.

The 90's knicks sucked me in by playing with so much heart. the heat and bulls rivalries were just amazing, the intensity!

Had enough Melo?

I'm a NYer so that automatically made me a fan as a kid. But like most kids during my childhood, I was also a Dr. J fan. But Bernard King kept me from straying down the 95 to Philly.

Your center at 7 feet from Georgetown University, PATRIIIIIICK EWING!!!

I was late to the game. My dad always watched sports, but they weren't my thing...outside of the Yankees and the '80s weren't kind to the Yanks. I was obviously aware of the Knicks, but I didn't watch basketball unless I was really desperate to avoid doing something like my homework. I remember watching games with Bernard King, Georgetown winning the NCAA championship, Ewing getting drafted, Jackson getting drafted and watching he a Patrick play some nice games together. But in 1989, the first semester of my senior year in HS I went to NYC with my dad, getting my long hair chopped, goin g to the Kosher deli across the street and down the block from MSG and going to see the Knicks play the Pistons. We had seats behind the basket, just to the left if you're on the court. The first row after the path behind the lower level seats (your sightline was never blocked unless someone stopped while selling cotton candy). Right then and there orange and blue forever. Marv, Walt Clyde, and Johnny calling the games. I've only seen about 10 games at the Garden, but they were all free and in those seats with my dad. I watched them play the Celtics and the Bulls in the playoffs during different seasons. I got to see Oak enforce and Streaky Starks just light it up. It's been rough since they ditched Patrick, but it's his legacy that keeps me watching. It's been a rough decade, but things are looking good again. I'm excited about the present and future again, not just remembering the past.

It was '87 and cable TV made it over to my way. Started flipping through the channels and came across MSG. I was 10 and instantly became hooked. Been bleeding blue and orange ever since.

Well iirc you weren't allowed to dunk back then and there was no 3 point line. And now you don't have them shorts so knees are more obvious.

When I moved to the US in 1996, I lived in Stamford and worked in NY for the first year then lived at various places in NY over the next two. And that's when I adopted the Knicks, Yankees and Giants. So I am a newbie in terms of basketball fandom and also of watching the Knicks. But when I take up a sports team it's usually for life. Nothing will change that. Well, there is one exception: Isiah Thomas joining the Knicks in any capacity.

Oh man, oh man . . . that would be worse than 10 years of being a laughing stock and having the owner to support it. I started rooting for the Knickerbockers not that long ago, about 95 or 96. A buddy of mine was a fan and he turned me on to what has become pretty much an obsession. I missed the glory days , but it was like my 2nd or 3rd year in the states. Signing Allan Houston(not the extention) was huge for me , and so was playing them Pacers and mostly the Heat. And beating them. Nothing compares. I want that feeling back

I guess a 1994 eastern conference championship hat my dad bought me at the time. Watched the 95 playoffs with the dreadful Ewing finger roll. Then became a diehard fan during the 96-97 season when the knicks got H20/LJ/Childs. Still my favorite season of watching basketball. The Starks 3 to win the game against phoenix early in the year. The Ewing steal and dunk over Dennis Rodman right before the half as we went toe to toe with the Bulls that year splitting the season series 2-2. Being so close to beating the Heat if not for the heartbreaking suspensions. Watching Starks shoot us out of the playoffs again in the series clincher Then the following year Ewing tears his achilles 8 games into the season and begins his decline
