Deron Williams to have wrist surgery, done for season

We knew he was playing through wrist pain since his trade to New Jersey, but it may have been worse than we knew.

Deron Williams will undergo right wrist surgery to remove bone fragments and scar tissue and is will be out the rest of the season, the team announced Friday.

He has had his moments playing through the pain — Williams had 21 assists and a game-winning shot this week against Minnesota. But the wrist pain dropped the career 46.3 percent shooter to just 34.9 percent since coming to the Nets. From three he shot just 27.1 percent when his career average is 35.5 percent. His PER with Utah was 22.1, but due to the wrist since coming to the Nets it is 17 (still above average but not the All-Star level we expect out of Williams).

He should be fully recovered for the start of next season. Whenever that is. Jordan Farmar will get the big minutes the last few games, so look for some pull-up threes.

Pretty obvious to me that D. Will is shutting it down this year, so as to be healthy for his free agent payday next year

I see him staying if they can bring in some help. He does live in NYC. Brooklyn isn't Utah.

Well obviously he wants to get himself right but I do find interesting he was tearing it up with assist and shooting was okay for the most part with a very bum wrist but when Gallo was here and his game was off fans were making excuses about his wrist anytime he had a bad game....lol Then add in the mysterious ankle injury Chandler had...very fishy

D-Will just came off a 21ast game and had plenty 12+ ast/gm prior too and since joining the team. Hmmmmmmmmm

If The Nets are smart they will trade their lottery pick for some help for Deron Williams.

Only guy I think who could help them immediately would be Zach Randolph. The Nets have a massive hole at PF and Zach Randolp could fill that role.

They cant bring in help, if they could LeBron or Melo would be cashing the supposed billionaire checks while hanging out with the Jay Z. It's just the Clippers East syndrome or as NY fans would say "Same Old Nets"

Maybe some time in the future if they ever get someone to sign as a free agent. D.Will didnt want to go to NJ, the way the east is shaping up, the nets will need quite a bit of help.

That's assuming he prefers the city life to the non city life. It's an assumption everyone makes about every athlete, but it's not always the case.

True, it's alot cheaper to get Allanfanned in a bar in Utah than paying those ridiculous Manhattan drink prices

Yeah, but you gotta be a "member" of the bar.

Uh, didn't they already trade their lottery pick to get Williams? Pretty sure they did.

SALT LAKE CITY (February 23, 2011) – Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor announced today that the team has acquired guard Devin Harris and forward Derrick Favors along with two future first round draft picks (New Jersey’s 2011 pick and Golden State’s 2012 pick) from New Jersey in exchange for guard Deron Williams.

Big Deron Williams 60-by-80-foot billboard at Times Square here in NY. Pretty risky marketing move on the Nets part—for a guy who might not even stick around.

What, the Nets traded an previous Allstar guard, there number 3 pick in Favors, this Years no lower then 10th and has a good chance of going top 3 pick, and another Lottery pick next year from GState who has made the playoffs once in the last 15 seasons!!!!!!! For a 2 year rental.................

Why is everybody saying the knicks gave up more for Melo. We signed most the players we sent away(counting AR as a S&T for Lee) and have Melo locked up.

LOL. a lakers #1 pick will be 28th overall. a nets #1 pick will be #3 overall. see the difference? and a lottery protected rockets pick means they won't be getting that pick from the rockets next year, since the rockets have zero chance of making the playoffs out west.

and, i was responding to a post that said "the nets should trade their lottery pick to get some help for Deron". there is no lotto pick. nets essentially traded four lotto picks (harris, favors, NJ 2011, GSW 2012) for deron, who may not re-sign - especially after another year in newark.

For sure the nets are taking a chance, but then again the Nets can do what Denver did with Melo and still get something back. But the big IF is if Deron tells them he is not coming back.
