Just read that he is open to another coaching job but isn't seeking one out. If an opportunity presents itself he would listen.

I'm not quite sold that he would work with our jerk owner and seems kind of inflexible in his ways. My perceptions are from afar as a Knick fan. What say you?

So we can have our pres. and head coach show up to a press conference in matching walkers?

would he want to coach this soft group of defensively challenged players?

He is inflexible, but he always seems to win. His system, I think, is solid, simple and tough nosed. I think NY would love him - more a throw back to the 90's knicks with Riley.

He is old, but if he could come in for 2-3 years, and lay the foundation, it would be worth it.

I've always liked Sloan. I think his teams are always well coached and they play hard. I don't know if he's right for this group of players, but I suspect that if we could make some upgrades to the roster he would do well. I think Amar'e would drive him crazy tho. I love STAT but he has awful recognition and awareness on defense. I think Sloan would blow a gasket watching that game after game.

Amar'e is happy and comfortable with this style of play and he doesn't most likely just wants to see us get another real PG before he would want a change at coach. I think even Melo likely would not love playing for Sloan who is the complete opposite of D'Antoni. Sloan has never been confused with having a soft touch. Say what you want, but Melo has stepped up on the defensive end and it didn't take a Sloan to make that happen. At some point players just have to want to do what it takes to win.

He is the best available and in my opinion one of the beat ever. I would be happy to see him coach the Knicks.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

This. I blow a gasket watching it. One of the assistants was recently in his face about it. Sloan coached Malone and Stockton for like 200 years. He might choke Amare with his lackof concern on defense.

I want Phil Jackson. He's going to be the best available if he's really done with the Lakers like he says he is. Whether or not he's interested is another story, but if he's available he gets the first call.

Grass is always greener.

He is open if its the right situation. If money is the situation then come to NY. If stable owner, patient fans and drafting good players to develop them is "the right situation" then NY is not it.

At the end of the day it's the results that matter. If Mda can get it done in the playoffs fine. But if we are a layup line for the other team and just stand around the 3 pt line, it really doesn't matter how comfortable players are. You always will be comfortable with a coach with zero motivation and low standards who won't get in your face. Besides from an article after the Boston loss it's not even a given players like playing under Mda. Players may need someone like Sloan who will get in your face. In the end you will respect and like the guy who brought the best out in you over the one who was too scared or apathetic to challenge you.
