He looks terrible out there. No defense, no boxing out, no rebounds. NO weak side blocks. nothing.
Hes either tired or injured or both. Has anyone else notcied this? We should shut him down for a few games, we hshould be able to win these next 2 without him.

He's been looking sluggish to me the last week or so. I wouldn't shut him down until we lock up the playoffs though.

I'm not sure. I see the effort when its time to shoot or beat his man off the dribble. But when its time to defend, I don't see the same effort. He's entitled to getting a break because of what he's done for us this year, but this won't be acceptable in the postseason.

It was very evident last night - he basically has turned into a jump shooter.

He looks totally shot - can't box out.

I would shut him down now & hope we can make the play offs without him.

I have noticed his decline. He is spent out there he isn't attacking the rim nearly as hard as when he was earlier in the year. He is standing around hoping the rebound lands in his hand instead of going after the ball. He is not responding to rotations on defense. He is making crappy players look like Wilt Chamberlain out there with his slowed down defensive effort. He definitely needs sometime off to recuperate and get back to being STAT.

Does this have anything to do with Melo's resurgence and takeover as the leader of the team?

I guess maybe D'Antoni is wrong and there is a difference between playing 37 minutes every game vs. 34.

He's clearly slowed down, but his not boxing out is a mental thing, just like his not watching the ball and his man. When the ball goes up he rarely feels for his man and makes contact in order to blockout. If you watch him, he's still able to sprint full court when he wants to. He only dunks when it's necessary, but he can do it. He also took off all his leg protection. I think he's definitely slowed down, but to a certain degree I think it's conscious rather than some physical injury right now. IMO, he's holding back in order to try and save himself to play more minutes. He could've begged off from playing some games but I give him credit for killing himself this year to help the team.

I'm positive he'll sit out some games after we clinch.

this sums up nicely the play of Amare of late:

http://www.postingandtoasting.com/2011/3/31/2081960/knicks-nets

Amar'e Stoudemire had himself a decent enough offensive outing, again turning efficient shooting into 20-odd points. He looked a tad springier tonight, especially in a first half flurry of jumpers (which we'd been missing of late). That defense, though, continued to nauseate. The Nets pounded on a button the Magic didn't push nearly enough on Monday. They ran the pick-and-roll with Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries and Johan Petro, and Amar'e did the usual thing where he stands in the single least useful place he can reach in a timely fashion. I swear he'd rather go sit in the nosebleeds than actually impede somebody's path after the screen. Oh, and his isolation D on Lopez (and Petro) was just horrid. He turned into a scarecrow as soon as Lopez made a move and practically sat cross-legged in the restricted area while Brook and Johan snaggled putbacks. He had one rebound against the notoriously board-averse Lopez, who had 9. Fairly distressing stuff, and it actually appeared at one point that Phil Weber was reaming Amar'e out for his laziness. I really hope it's just tired legs and that he'll be rowdy as ever on Sunday.

Do you really think he is playing no defense and not rebounding because he is "shot"? I don't think you paid close attention to that part of his game because that's how he's always played on that end. Maybe you overlooked it due to the block numbers and great scoring games but Amar'e was never playing good defense or boxing out consistently at any point this season.

Yeah..I agree ..dude miss one game this season never really complains and now he doesn't have to take over games no more..he's been
dreadful on defense..but the whole team is guilty of that..I also think he's force to play passive on defense down the stretch cuase he's been in foul truoble a lot lately

He misses Felton, Chandler, Gallo, and Timo.

All I know he's one of the worst rebounding Elite Talents I've ever seen in my life. They showed at least 3-4 replays yesterday of him just watching guys go in for boards/tips backs. It was really sad and the only time he made contact with someone was with a pushing in the back. He sure knows how to dribble into 3-4 defenders with force no matter what qrt it is though.

STAT really misses having a PG that can get him a ton of easy looks at the basket. You almost never see him getting his usual PnR right to the basket for a finish. This forces him to have to try and create much too often. Since he's not a back to the basket type of player, it really hurts him if you don't have a good PnR PG.

As for his rebounding, he kind of had this happen late in the season in PHX. Remember how bad he was on the boards in those Laker games on the boards? His playoff avg. last year was only 6.6 rebs. It's not like he has to jump thru the roof in order to get a rebound. It's more about positioning, technique and reading where the ball might come off the rim. He just doesn't go hard when it comes to working for a rebound.

You could count on 1 hand the amount 20 and 10 guys in the league..and he's up there in block shots..most good rebounders are horrible offensive players..and visa versa..ewing had maybe 2 season in which he avg a double double...melo is such a high voulume shooter cuase he almost always know when his shot is off and rebounds his own misses better then most players...
