I dont see whats all the hype about frank williams and mike sweetney.everybody talks about them having great potential like if they came straight in to the n.b.a. from high school.these cats play for years of college ball...I say get rid of them as soon as possible for a bag of chips and a coke.

You don't know how much pressure is on those young cats playing in MSG with the knicks having a rep of not playing guys with lil experience in NBA. Trying to press will surely make them look bad trying to impress coach and GM and at the same time in the back of your mind knowing you are trade bait.

wow, i completely disagree. i think frank has proven that he could possibly START in the league. he went from 3rd string and overweight, to starting on this team, and winning as a starter. the offense ran so smooth with him. true, it was only for 3 games but we've seen it.

as for sweets, he's overweight like frank was last year. give him a year and let's see where he's at next camp. he lives in the post, something none of our players do. aguirre loves his game and i think with the right coaches along with his georgetown motivation, i have no doubt in my mind that sweets will be a player in this league.

but i do agree that frank should be traded b/c he has no place on this team and by moving him we can possibly address a need - an athletic frontcourt player.

I havent seen Sweetney play enough yet to judge so I will reserve comment on him. Body wise he reminds me of a poor mans Elton Brand. As for Frank, from what I have seen he looks OK, he can start in the NBA on alot of teams. IMO I dont ever see an all-star type player because he doesnt seem to have the footspeed. But I think if he gets traded and gets to play he will have a solid career. I would trade him only because with marbury he does the knicks no good. But I wouldnt give either of these young guys away for nothing.

So playing 4 years of college ball is bad now? This is exactly what's making these league worse and worse every season. More and more wannabe superstars coming out of highschool and early our of college who can't make a bounce pass, shoot ft's or box out. Give me a break, its a damn shame that actually graduating college is looked down upon these days.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

this is the craziest reasoning I have heard yet, that two young guys don't have potential because they went to college!! LOL, that is nuts, and that is the problem with the NBA, many GM's are getting fooled by the euro craze and the HS hoop legends. they look at the kobe's and Kg's and the dirks, but they forget about the corleon youngs, leon smiths, and mirsad Turkans.... and for the record both Frankie and sweetney left college as juniors after domination on their perspective levels, frankie led Illinois to the elite 8 in the NCAA tourney as a sophmore and sweets just dominated the big east..

I guess unknowns such as lampe and milos BTW who is older than both sweetney and Williams by 2 years are the ones with potential because some European scouting report on Nba draft. net said so...

just ridiculous!!!

The sample size is far too small to draw any definitive conclusions.

No! you missunderstood me.I would never knock a kid who wants to stay in school and get a degree.what i'm trying to say is because they play four years of college they should be more polish then a kid coming from h.s. or just one year of college.

Most stay 4 yrs because they want a degree or or they aren't sure they have made enough progress in their overall skill level to play in the nba. Some leave early because they don't like going to college(bad grades) or need those checks coming in to take care of family and are willing to take that chance to leave the hood early.

Well, they are more polished, FW actually showed he was a pretty good starter for 4 games. Sweetney was just out of shape, thanks to Layden and Chaney. Now that he is getting back into bball shape he actually looked good in his 8 minutes last night.

Spree: you raise an interesting point. Think people do expect more polish out of kids who've done 3 or 4 years of college, but it's probably not fair. Back in the day, all rookies had done 3 or 4 years of college, but plenty of them developed while in the NBA.

All that said, I agree that Fwill and Sweets are getting overhyped. Neither of them has shown all that much yet. They're both struggling to win minutes on a team that is still -- what is it, 4 or 5 games under .500? In the East! We're all so desperate for some decent young talent, that we get a little overexcited when they show anything. I'm guilty of it too. Got to say, I'm happy when either of those guys heads to the scorer's table. I want them to be good more than I want Moochie, Shandone, OT or any of the other guys who will have a hard time increasing their value regardless of what they accomplish.

thats total b.s. that he couldn't stay in shape on his own. i can stay in shape without playing in nba games and i don't have a multi million dollar contract to do so.
