bergenadamek: For what it's worth, Knicks magic # now 6 over Bucks (no tiebreaker yet), 5 over Bobcats (Knicks already win tiebreak). Play them next 2 Gs

With the way these guys have been giving it up at the end of games, after having a lead, there are no gimme games. Let's all hope for 6 winable games.

Basically, we just have to do is beat the Bucks and win about 3 more other games, and we should be in.

Just amazing how NY has been playing lately and still they are pretty much safe outside of total collapse. ATL has been just as bad and it's of course worse for them cuz they have no excuse as to why they've hit the skids.

Knicks have to suck it up and win by any means necessary. It seems to me that they aren't gonna have enough time to truly develop chemistry, so the Knicks are gonna have to win ugly from here on and in the playoffs.

Win ugly means giving 120% effort on defense, but can we really expect that? They only seem to do it against contenders. Which really tells you this is a dumb team. Play the defebse you played in the last two games and you would probably still be 2 games over .500.

How much for a rigged win? Hey, dont look at me that way! This is desperation time.

No matter what, our main objective should be to win 6 to 7 games, preferably 7. We cant finish the season under .500. All this revival, all this exciting season to have another losing season? Please no!

Flight Simulator

"In one thousand simulations of the rest of the season, the Knicks qualified for the playoffs every time. To put it another way, there is probably a less than one-in-1,000 chance that the Knicks will miss the playoffs based on the current standings and their remaining schedule.

While making the playoffs is almost a foregone conclusion for the Knicks, advancing beyond the first round presents a much tougher challenge: the Knicks are on a collision course to face one of the top three teams in the East — the Chicago Bulls, the Boston Celtics or the Miami Heat. But the Knicks have played surprisingly well against those teams, putting up a record of 4-5 with a point differential of minus-1.8 points per game. The Celtics have given the Knicks the most trouble, handing them three of those losses, but all of the games were close. The first two losses were by a total of 6 points, and in Monday’s loss the Knicks held a 14-point lead at the half and a 6-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

That being said, a first-round series win over any of these teams would be a huge upset. Going back to the simulation results, the chances of this happening are around 15 percent, with the most likely result being a series loss by the Knicks in five games.

With seven losses in eight games, it is easy to understand why some of the Knicks’ faithful have lost hope. But a comfortable lead in the playoff standings coupled with an easy schedule the rest of the way will almost certainly land the Knicks in the playoffs. And although it’s likely to be a brief stay, that should be considered progress for a team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2004."

6 wins? That's crazy. And I mean crazy because that's a lot of games for this team to win.

I never thought we would be seriously discussing the possibility of missing the playoffs this year, but, hey. We are.

Simulations in what?? NBA 2k11??

The Knicks have always fielded great NBA 2k teams. Stephon, Francis, Curry, Randolph, they were all rated in the 80s I think.

making the playoffs is a foregone conclusion. if there's any bright side to this it makes our draft pick that much better since there isn't really a big difference in who we matchup with in the first round.

Making the playoffs is nice but not the same when a team just falls down a flight of stairs and happens to stumble into them. That's what we will be.

since we get to keep it, maybe MDA & Walsh are tanking so they can get the best possible pick.

it's not exactly 6 wins.. it's combination of knick wins and losses by the other teams.

Here's the formula for the Magic Number to clinch a Playoff Spot:

83 - (# of NYK wins + # of 9th seed losses) = Magic Number.

-- the preceding post was brought to you by the letter K and the number 22.
