Thank you! I did read the Persian Gulf is excellent for fly fishing. I plan to buy the gear tomorrow so I can learn. When I was in Tripoli, it sucked, so I spent all my money travelling. This time, I want to bank as much as possible. Kind of stoked that I'll have something to dump my time into

Supreme, good luck. I just looked up to see exactly where Qatar and Bahrain are. You are going to the center of the storm. Major political and civil unrest all around. Stay safe.

according to the CIA Factbook, Qatar has the second highest per capita income in the world. I bring this up because my belief is these revolts ultimately have to do with the piece of the pie the people get, and property owner rights.

My company is ~50,000 and I already started pestering THE safety guy about the location specific evacuation plan. A coworker that worked in Iraq/Afghanistan used to carry a big shiny gold coin in case things got sticky because that has value to everyone, anywhere. I'm going to do the same and use it for "cabfare" if things get sticky

Doha is supposed to be very nice. I have a Saudi friend who is a petroleum engineer in New Orleans, and he said he's actively trying to get there

Never got to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Cairo but I definitely will this time. There was nothing to do in Libya and I was pretty lonely. I tended to go to place were English speaking tourists were to stay sane. Everyone speaks English and there are US universities there... I actually think it will be easier to immerse

Would you mind if I asked jimi or fishy for your email? I would love to get some career progression advice... I know this will be marketable in the future, but I just stumbled into this world. Would be curious to hear what you think

It absolutely is. I will. This was my favorite picture from my Libya trip:

The gold coin is a great idea.
Actually, some gold and silver coins are good to have even here in the U.S. Useful as a hedge against inflation and in case things really get crazy.

Hey SC, good luck in Doha. Its a great time to go now as they just got the World Cup bid, so therell be some heavy infrastructure spending. You a part of any of those contracts?

Either way, check the news, be safe and come visit!!

Good luck Supreme. Stay safe and when you come back maybe I'll actually be able to get to one of these get togethers!
