citing from elsewhere-
Superstars have to possess a nasty edge. As Fran Fraschilla said in a New York Times Magazine story bemoaning NBA lottery prospect Perry Jones being too nice, "Most superstars are jerks, or they have that side to them. It goes with the territory.''
I can think of a long list of players that I do not think this is true in many sports. To me this is only about being spoiled and entitlement I do understand going off a bit in the heat of the moment but sulking visibly during a game?
To name a few-
Tim Duncan
David Robinson
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Roger Staubach
John Elway
Chauncey Billups
Now these guys may not be at the top of their game now but I don't recall them being called 'jerks' when they were or that being the common perception of them.
That said I loved Spree's passion and yes he was a jerk
Though mostly to the media iirc At least I don't remember him kicking his gf down a flight of stairs.
Bill Simmons on Tyreke Evans
"The prototypical 0-guard: Someone who handles the ball all the time, looks for his own shot, gets to the rim at will and operates best if his teammates spread the floor to watch him."
