I know things aren't positive here to mention this, but lets not forget this may happen at season's end to make a bad situation even worse:

Right now the Knicks have a 35-34 record.

Ok...

Ready?

The Rockets are three games above .500 at 37-34.

So right now we would lose our pick to Houston.

Not certain on this but apparently our playoff position matters in this equation. I believe if we make playoffs and Rockets don't (even if they had better record - they'd still get better pick - no swap).

If we both made playoffs and they had better record === I believe they could swap (but them making playoffs is still questionable).

I do believe this is correct. Playoffs matter for both teams.

Good point. They are close to Memphis but I can't see the Grizzlies missing the playoffs. So if things remain the same, its not a huge issue for us.

Thanks for the heads up

I think the 16 playoff teams get ranked according to record. Then, the lotto balls get distributed to the teams that missed the playoffs based upon record. So the teams that miss the playoffs always get a better pick.
