I’m going to try to leave emotions out of this one because if they were involved, my recap on tonight’s performance would be filled with capital letters, exclamation points, and all out rage.
I’ll turn my turning point over to The Knicks Blog tomorrow, but let’s get this straight: the outcome was a buildup of 48 minutes, not seven seconds.
Chauncey Billups (-20) perhaps played worse than any Knick, but all I hear throughout Twitter was how this was the fault of D’Antoni and Jeffries. And truth be told, it was a combination of every Knick on the floor for that loss. Anthony Carter, meanwhile, has not seen time for any loss since becoming a ‘Bocker.
Like I said on Twitter though, there were a few positives from the win that will be forgotten because of how bad this one stung.
Amar’e carried this team when they needed timely hoops late in the fourth quarter.
Toney Douglas put the team on his back, going 4-6 from downtown and his one sequence where he made a three, got a steal, then converted on a clear path foul got me excited.
When Melo and Amar’e (and Billups, in the second quarter) were out, the Knicks had a couple of runs that gave you some hope that this “team” really could be good. (Unfortunately, the Knicks manage to have hot and cold streaks where they become inconsistent within the same game.)
When push came to shove, in the closing seconds, Carmelo Anthony made the basket. Sure, he could have held it until there were two ticks on the clock, but he still put the ball in the hole. And by the way, he answered our question.
Stuff like the notes above will be lost in this loss. With that being said, there are many points from which to leech off of from the perspective of the typical “Knicks hater”, so if you see the team getting bashed over the next 48 hours, at least you know why.
Obviously changes need to be made. It doesn’t matter whose fault this loss was, all that does is how the team reboots and rebuilds from here. The Knicks have the Grizzlies next, the only team they have been able to beat over the past seven days… so let’s get it.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare
