I'm very happy with the job he's been doing in Billups' absence. It's true that he's not a classic point guard in the John Stockton mode. But he's showing more ability in that respect and brings so much else to the table. His d is very good; he pushes the ball up well and he has a good outside shot. Buying that pick and using it on Douglas was a big plus for the Knicks.

Toney's shot is not really good. He's a streak shooter shooting 41% from the field, 34% from 3. These aren't good numbers. His defense is overrated. All he does is try to go for a steal most of the time and gets lost on assignments.

Anthony Carter is a better defender. Carter is also a better point guard. I would prefer he start and play more minutes than Toney.

TD has stepped up lately -- is it me or does he seem so much more comfortable at home than on the road, esp. shooting the ball? Gallo was like that..Thank God we got Carter back in this trade..Dude's gonna help out at the point, esp on the road down the stretch here..

16-6-4 62% over the last 4 games and his efg is in the 70's with a 3.5 -1 TO ratio. You cant play much better than that--its not sustainable but hes been very good.

I am on a see-saw with TD. First drafted, I was on board. First summer league I was hopeful because he showed flashes. Then the season started and he was just up and down. Did not help that he was learning from Dudu. Beginning of this year until the Melo trade, he was horrible. With Billups down a bit, he has been a god send.

I am not sold yet but I am happy with his production right now. I hope he continues.

transforming from SG to PG is tough, just look at the uber talented OJ Mayo and how that experiment failed miserably.

From last year to present, TD has progressed tremendously; still not at the point where we as fans are completely comfortable with him, but not bad either. Seems like his shoulder problems may have been slowing his offensive game, which is a big part of what can make him effective as a PG. Having Melo on court also makes things much easier for the guy.

Has to learn to turn the corner and not retreat from a hint of on-ball pressure when running PnR, but that will come (I think I recall him not even being able to dribble last year).

Dude has had better shot clock awareness recently and better defense (less fouling and raw mistakes).

Seems to me that these 4 games starting has given him a bit of a confidence boost too, which is nice. Having Chauncy around will do wonders.

This quote was attributed to Hollinger.
Apparently the "defense-optional" memo New York sends everybody never reached Douglas. On a team full of marginal defenders, Douglas' ferocious D stands out even more, and his role is increasing now with 34-year-old Chauncey Billups unlikely to bear the insane minutes load that Raymond Felton did.

He's not a natural point guard and he's a bit small for the 2, but at either spot he guards like crazy (witness the Orlando game last week, when Chris Duhon could barely get the ball across half court against him). Additionally, the Melo trade may benefit him by allowing him to play off the ball and spot up for 3s more, something he does quite well. He already has three 20-point games since the trade and he had only four such games before the trade.

Still think this was going on in practice last year and the reason Duhon could never get out of his funk.

The best thing that ever happened to TD is the trade. Billups and Carter is doing wonders for him. Also, Melo and Amare are both opening up things for TD.

really liked the results when Melo brought the ball up and TD spotted up. I kept wondering how many assists Melo would have and what TD would end up scoring...this alignment is gonna pay dividends and really opens things up for everyone. Looked like everyone was getting quality shots w/o forcing the ball.....Jeffries and TD's ball pressure defense was also awesome....

Coach is hard on this guy...the times I've seen it he usually deserved it. Presentation is of course part of teaching style. Obviously it is effective. First d'A was a 'point' iirc TD has shown steady growth Billups is the key for all of the Knicks
but will do the most good here. AC will too. There was mention of several of the guys being from Atlanta area during the Hawks game. Clyde, AC several former player. TD too.

Sat out a year after leaving Auburn. He was a high 16-20 a game as a freshman scoring guard. He wanted to play point.
They would not bend he transfers to FSU and sits a year.

At FSU he plays for Leonard Hamilton. The same Michael Jordan chose for his coach when he bought into the Wizards
Who also coached Starks at Oklahoma State Great defensive coach ...Seminoles have not been known for offense since they teamed Sura, Cassell and Ward in the backcourt (nice back court eh?)

Toney really came on strong his sophomore year. He and Al Thornton keyed up for several victories and a likely NCAA run
Douglas broke a bone in his hand and went NIT without him. They upset Florida (that's national champ Noah, Horford, Lee Brewer etc) and Duke that year.

The next year they were 4 guards. NIT

His last year they took in 6 freshman and made the NCAA tourney. Wisconsin vs FSU was as slow as it gets. Wisconson got the no-calls and the win But TD took them to the first ACC Championship game. Many felt he was shafted on ACC POY since Lawson was a Carolina product.

Toney will kill you late game if you give him -any- room. He can shoot off the dribble, ball denial is awesome, pressures on the ball well. His floater is a work in progress but this is a full time gig and TD does work. Expect him to get there.

I do feel his progress has been hampered by injury He's tough though Not often you see a guy pop in a dislocated shoulder then handle the ball and get an assist.

everyone loves TD when his shot is on and can't stand him when he is off. a true feast or famine player. I find such inconsistency too frustrating.

The guy needs to get his PG skills up before I give him any props, other then "good job".

He has one double digit assist game in his 1st 100 or so games. I know he doesn't start and he's only been in the league a year and a half, but I have a hard time with a shoot first pg, unless your marbury(in his prime) or AI.

When we drafted him, I couldn't find a single highlight were he made a nice assist, as a matter a fact, I couldn't find a single highlight where he pass the ball at all. He's going to be a career back up, if he doesn't learn how to run a team, because he's way to streaky and 2 small to every be a true SG.

His defense is a little overated and his IQ needs to improve a lot on defense. Too many times he's too aggressive and some times too shallow. That was totally evident against the cavs, he overplayed sessions, and backed off of baron, one shot 3's the other penetrated.

I agree on his D being over-rated at this point. He has the right mentality, he seems to have the physical attributes necessary to play D at this level, but he seems to make some bad reads leading to easy baskets or open shots. And while he handcuffed Duhon... let's not forget that Nelson was absolutely unstoppable in the same game.

Another thing to remind folks: Douglas was among the oldest rookies drafted last season - he'll be turning *25* next week. Not old, particularly for a PG, but consider that Sebastian Telfair (less than a year older than TD) is in his *8th* season in the NBA.

TD is a solid role player. I don't think he'll ever be a true point but I thinks he's servicable with the way he plays now. I would like to see more consistancy on his jump shot. Some games he looks like he can't miss and other games the ball comes out of his hands and you can tell it will brick within the first second. Either way, I'm a TD fan.

Go figure, I point out yesterday that TD never had a double digit assist game in his Basketball career(college or the pro's), and he gets 10 assits the very next night against Memphis, THINK THEY READ THIS FORUM..

You need to point that out before every game. The team is depending on you.

Stubborn

When Toney threw the crazy lefthanded pass and got pulled over by D'Antoni, he did not listen. Douglas was trying to plead his case.

“Can not play with them. Can not win with them. Can not coach with them. Can’t do it. I want winners. I want people that want to win” - Mike Singletary

"Toney Douglas did what Toney Douglas do for three quarters, then made a horrible mess in the fourth. Through three, he was stupid accurate from the field (7-10) and pretty careful with the ball (just one turnover). In the fourth, he didn't hit a shot and followed an unnecessary offensive foul with a lackadaisical left-handed shovel pass so frighteningly ripe for the picking (and it got picked) that I suddenly found myself under my bed. Not ideal. Though the fourth quarter sucked and we'd like Chauncey Billups back pretty please, Toney put up a hell of a line, including a career-high ten assists, and is worthy of our applause. Shit got scary for a minute, but Douglas had a pretty fine evening on the whole." - Posting And Toasting
