I think its going to take 10+ games to get him into shape--but Jefferies could be the best pick up after the deadline that any team made. Jefferies is a good fit for the Knicks--he might not be that way else where. That was a gift but I guess Houston owed us that---I think Jefferies will help make up for something we didnt have. I wish we had jefferies from the start of the season--but thats the way it is. I wouldve like to see Mosgov Gallo Amare jefferies. Jefferiee wa missing piece for this team--a guy who could defend the rim at times and also have the ability to put pressure on the opposing PG in the halfcourt. I think it may take him some time on the offense and it would be nice if we set up aplay or two to see if we can get him in rhythm. last year he was hitting threes and really coming on for the team.

He doesn't need to take any shots.

It really is amazing- or perhaps bizarre, that he may become a savior on this team.

Fishlips now becomes the Octopus on our D- taking charges, using his lateral quickness to stay in front of guys, switching off, providing length and disrupting opposition shooters.

How things change.

Rather see him develop a nice little jump hook than taking the 3s- even though he had a bit of success shooting them last year.

What i've liked is his offensive board work. He gets in and disrupts the defense on the boards, keeping the ball alive if he can't get it. I fully expected him to help on D with his length and range as a defender. He can really move his feet and the way he plays Centerfield helps to play a more smothering style of D. MDA was right to want him back. You could tell he never really wanted to lose him last year. He was his man guy on D. He's always had guys like him in his defenses. Guys that weren't Centers but could cover ground and give help and slow down perimeter guys from penetrating.

He is a great fit. He has a role on this team that no one else is able to fill. He also is great to have with Turiaf constantly breaking down.

Agreed, he does look good on this team. He should not be shooting another 3 pointer , ever, while he is playing for us. We need him for a completely different purpose here. Now, developing his layup shooting is another story. But in all seriousness, the one thing I would like to see him improve is his free throw %.

he was +11 tonight even though he scored 0 points. pretty remarkable. he will be instrumental in turning the team D around. him and chauncey both seem to "get" what playing good team Defense is all about.

I would even add Mason to that mx aswell. He played good D, and when you consider he was the starting 2 guard on a great defensive team in SanAn. So you know he understands the nuances of D'ing up.

Thank god D'Antoni listened to the MSG crowd the other day - he has rediscovered Mason!

I agree about Jeffries. Exactly what this team needs on defense. Well, they could use a bruiser at the 5, but Jeffries knows the way this team plays and he'll help them against everyone but Orlando, I think.

Another underrated get for the defense is Anthony Carter. The Toney/Carter backcourt is VERY active defensively and AC can somewhat run the offense as well. I think AC will be big down the stretch and in the playoffs.

AC and Jeffries are the kinds of guys that fill in the gaps around star players very nicely. What's more, I think both will be willing to sign cheaply in NY in the off-season. Invaluable guys to have on the roster.

Look at the way Boston made a huge move, too - they went with Jeff Green over Kendrick Perkins.

That's a move most of us think is crazy, but the stat gurus are saying makes sense. And it makes sense for style of play in the East, too, these days.

The only teams in the whole league that can really hurt you with size are Orlando and the Lakers. Obviously, you need to be able to get by those guys... but there aren't many teams that use size.

A guy like Jeffries can defend almost any forward or wing in the league. Tonight in Miami, Chicago put Noah on Lebron on the last play and Bron missed. The East now is about more versatile bigs who can defend the perimeter and in transition... rebounding is a plus, of course and Jeffries is only average there. But he helps everywhere else.

Jefferies as usual will not be prevelant in the stat sheet but look incredible tonight. He was everywhere defensively. He did however look pretty stupid on a couple of offensive plays trying to do too much. But it definitely was a great pickup (even better then earl the pearl baron)!
so here is what phil is thinking ....

Jeffries is a perfect fit for this team right now! Doesn't need to score but needs to at least keep the defense honest or they'll play off him

jeffries was a nice pick-up . but he was no missing piece for the former team. they would have gone from a 2-over-.500 to a 4-over-.500.

Does anyone know what contract we signed JJ2 to? None of the blurbs about his signing seem to mention it.
Is it vet min till the end of year? Or...?

One aspect of JJSkinny's game that is overlooked is his boxing out. His is very fundametally sound in every aspect except for shooting.

I heard he pulled a muscle picking up quarter pounders. Those type of injuries tend to linger around the mid section.
