MSG Networks has signed a deal that will make 1050 ESPN Radio the new radio home of the New York Knicks and New York Rangers starting with the 2004-2005 season. The multi-year agreement was announced today by Mike McCarthy, president, MSG Networks and Tim McCarthy, president and general manager, 1050 ESPN Radio.

As part of the agreement, MSG Networks will produce, sell game advertising and select game announcers for both teams. The deal also includes an unprecedented multi-tiered cross-promotional effort between Madison Square Garden - Knicks, Rangers and MSG Networks – and 1050 ESPN Radio.

“This is a groundbreaking deal that joins two of sports biggest brands in a unique marketing, promotional and rights arrangement,” said Mike McCarthy, president, MSG Networks. “We are excited about the new relationship with 1050 ESPN Radio and look forward to continuing to bring Knicks and Rangers fans the highest quality radiocasts they have come to expect from MSG Radio.”

“It is fitting that in the greatest sports city in the world that ESPN and MSG are spoken in the same sentence ,” stated Tim McCarthy, president and general manager of 1050 ESPN. “We are proud and honored that the Knicks and Rangers have chosen 1050 ESPN as their new home.”

“On behalf of the Knicks and the Rangers, we’re thrilled to be embarking on such a strong partnership with ESPN Radio - the national leader in sports,” said Steve Mills, president and chief operating officer, MSG Sports. “We think our many fans who follow their teams via radio telecasts will appreciate the energy and perspective that results from this new agreement.”

Yeah, thats why you're not aware of Wally and the Keeg on 1050ESPN talking about Knicks B-Ball for about an hour. Better than Mike and Maddog..

I am actually kinda bummed about this, I like WFAN a lot better than ESPN radio, I remember when Walt was on 660am and i thought he was the best announcer. But it doesnt really matter cause i mostly watch on TV anyway.

Well the quality of the Knicks talk show on 1050 is well worth the investment in a signal booster.

They are a helluva lot more Pro-Knicks than shows like Mike & the Mad Dog.

Good lookin' out, Wood. Just ignore the snotty remarks from the less intelligent postas- your post was a good one.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Hope Mike Breen and Greg Anthony do most of the games, with some input also from Johnny Hoops.

I flip back an forth now because espn is a ton more pro Knicks. Mike and the mad dog are too baseball, even in the winter.

The down side is espn's signal sucks.

There is a link on the main page where you can listen live. Hopefully that'll let you listen to the games next season too.

I believe that the signal will be stronger by next season (for all who listen locally). It's easier to listen to the webcast though (at least it is for me). If they are gonna have the Knicks and rangers, they can't broadcast on a half-assed signal.

Check out their GameNight show every night @ 7:30. Good Pro-Knicks stuff, without the Mad-Dog-Knicks-Hater crap, and without the prejudiced and/or outright racist callers and commentary.

I already watch, read, and listen to too much about the knicks. i'm happy with the knowledge that i'm getting from you guys also. i don't need to loose my mind hearing about the knicks all the time, it; it would just be un-healthy for me.

Yeah, I like Mac and Sid, they have great regular caller, val, Jermome from Manhatten. Everytime that guy's seams come apart Im laughing the whole day. Even Joe overnight is great, he's a big Knicks fan. I can take Mike and the Mad dog in interviews but man Mad Dog hates Isiah.

When the Knicks are on 1050 next season, the only show I'll listen to on WFAN would be Joe Benigno on the overnight show. He damn sure is a big Knicks fan- the biggest and realest one on that station.

Yes- Jerome and Val are reason enough to only listen to FAN. Vals reaction to the superbowl halftime show was hillarious, I havent heard from Jerome in a while though.
