Sounds like Knicks may have a shot at Leon Powe, too, now with Celts signing Murphy. I think Powe is actually the best guy on the waiver wire. He is a guy I would start at center. He's undersized, but he's tough as nails.

W/Boston signing Murphy, Cs out of Powe discussions. Boston looking for wing with other roster spot. Powe keeps talking w/NYK, NO, MEM, MIA.

I'd love to sign Powe. If you can cut Roger Mason Jr. to do this, you have to do it. Either him, or Rasual Butler. Another reliable guy.

Understand we're going to have to hear about a Mason cut and quick. I don't the Knicks would let me go without giving him the chance to hook onto a playoff team, and he becomes ineligible if not cut by tonight.

Wha...? Why the hell would the Knicks care if 1-for-18 Mason gets to play on a playoff team?

you got the wrong "he". For any player to be available for playoff roster, said person has to be signed by today (with Mason getting cut for the roster spot).

Because teams actually try to treat their players with some respect and to foster positive relations with agents, who may represent another player down the line.

Why would ANY team waive a player before the deadline? They do it to give players a chance to hook onto another team.

Then we should cut Rautins because we will need more big men than Jeffries and Turiaf. I don't really want us to go to the playoffs with only those two being our big men.

Rautins is a project PG but is that what we need/will need moving forward? A spare/backup big is more important in the playoffs than a fourth PG (Billups, Carter, Douglas).

Rautins maybe Heinrich in the making. Team see's somthing in him and wants to give him more time.

15th player don't play much. Nobody is making the impact at the 5 off the waiver wire.

The earl of Barron had a nice 8 game audition but there may be something donnie don't like in his game.

No, that's not correct.

A player must be waived by March 1st to be eligible to sign with a new team and make the play-off roster.

If he appears on an NBA roster after March 1st, he is only eligible to be on THAT team's play-off roster.

Teams can sign free agents (including D-League players, and foreign players who were previously draft eligible) up until the last day of the season and still qualify for the postseason.

The Knicks could theoretically sign Leon Powe anytime before the end of the season, but in order to give Mason a shot at someone else's postseason roster, he must be released before midnight tonight.

He is a bruiser, plays hard at both ends, rebounds, can help the team now.

I don't think Derrick Brown will even play over Balkman.

Whatever.

Powe's rebounding has gotten progressively worse. He's only averaging like 7.3 rebounds per 36 minutes, which isn't much better that Derrick Brown. It doesn't look like he fully recovered from the knee injury. It's a shame. Powe could still be useful as guy who gives fouls, but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over him.

You realize the only reason Balkman is here is because of traded player exception and he fit the trade filler accordingly? He was the very first player shipped out upon D'AnToni's hiring for two players we cut immediately and a second round draft pick which ironically became either Rautins or Fields. The time he gets or has received is out of respect/due diligence/and the hanging hat on him being more of a defensive minded player but trust coach would prefer not to play him. But picking up a guy practically for free with signs of upside suggest he'll get PT at some point very soon. For crying out loud Johnathan Bender got PT over certain players here I'm sure a solid pickup like Brown can do likewise over Balkman if it comes down to choosing.
