While Landry Fields has struggled to make the adjustment to his new running buddies, Shawne Williams has been a pleasant surprise. Typecast as only a three point sniper, his adaptability and much-needed length have been a blessing. Williams is fluid and has a knack for staying between his man and the rim. That is a rare skill for a 6'9 player. He uses his feet to gracefully slide from side to side and shade his man.

Whether he starts, as he did last night, or comes off the bench, Sha Williams has demonstrated he can contribute when his shot is not falling. He was on the court the entire fourth quarter with Bill Walker.

Williams is proving to be a most valuable survivor. Bill Walker, please keep grabbing rebounds.

Walker and Williams were phenominal last night.

If we're going to be a secound round caliber team this year, our bench is going to have to step up when it counts.

Shawne is Boris Diaw.

Have to always compare knicks to Suns.

Shawne and Walker are perfect compliments for Amare and Melo. Both are spot up shooters with decent size.

As far as spacing, Walker and Williams have almost infinite range, so nobody is going to give STAT and Melo more room to operate than those two with Billups at the point.

Can we bring Sheed or Employee #8 out of semi-retirement? That's basically what we need is a guy who "can" board defensively and can give maximum space to Melo and Stat on the other end.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Yes, but did you see that blown point-blank layup that Shawne missed off the pass from Billups in the last few minutes?

Boy, I wanted D'Antoni to walk out onto the court, hand Shawne the ball and say, "Miss one of these, and you're out of the lineup."

Fortunately for us all, he made both :)

He seems to have trouble hitting a shot with someone in his face but he did what he needed to do in other areas to keep the Knicks in the game with some big plays. Guys like that you want to keep around.

I'm definitely glad he's around, I like his 3-pt accuracy and his defense. It's just that his offensive game is extremely limited and pretty one-dimensional, so it works for our sake I suppose that the majority of shots will go through Melo and Amare.

Remember that game a few weeks ago that came down to the final possession, the ball wound up in Shawne's hands, and he ended up throwing some off balance airball at the side of the backboard? ugh. brutal.

Shawn Williams has looked good defensively all year thats what MDA like most about him. He sometimes guards the 5 too. What I would like to see from him is a little more agression on the offensive end. He seems very tentative on his drives.
so here is what phil is thinking ....

Yep, I don't remember him taking it to the rim more than a few times this season. A while back he made a real nice move along the baseline where he switched hands before he went up for the dunk. People know to look for him in the corner now, he should use that to his advantage and drive more to keep his defenders honest.

Williams has been great all year.. Only problem that he needs needs to work on, as others have mentioned, is finishing at the rim
