Early in the first quarter of last night's game, Billups got into foul trouble and his substitution was Toney Douglas, who was ON FIRE against the Bucks. Unlike that time, he was our backup PG and the results kind of showed, as the offense didn't look organized and we had trouble keeping up with the Cavs until we finished tied at 53.
I thought we had already crossed the river with Toney as the backup PG. We actually have a decent backup PG on the team now that is no scrub or fill in. Anthony Carter can keep this offense running when Billups needs rest.
But why do I get the feeling that he is already in Mike D's doghouse along with Sheldon Williams and Corey Brewer? It seems like Douglas will be our backup PG, offensive organization be damned.
I know that some will say they may not be ready yet because they don't know the offense, but I think its more D'Antoni simply not considering it. Balkman, who wasn't here when we got Mike D, saw some action last night. Balkman, of all people.
We still need a backup PG as Douglas is better suited as a combo guard microwave-offense off the bench. Carter is ours. Before cutting him and ignoring this important need, why don't we give him a try?
