some projections had us as the best offensive team but taking a decent step back on defense after the trade and early returns are confirming that...
this analysis is spot on.... chauncey's GREAT except he cannot keep up with quick guards or keep up with them enough to make life difficult taking it to the basket. and we all know melo and amar'e's struggles. i think there are a few easy fixes that i hope mda recognizes...
Play TD more with billups. he's been our best perimeter defender which isn't saying much but he's the only guy on the roster that can keep up with the derrick roses' and ramon sessions'(laff) of the world. TD is going to get more PT just cause billups won't be able to play 40 minutes a night like felton.
Play shelden williams with Amar'e he's our best rebounder by a large margin and i hope mda does not keep this guy on the bench like he did with AR. unlike AR he's smart with rotations and he can bang down low. and unlike our starting center he does not try to go up for every block even though someone else is going up to contest leaving no one for a rebound. turiaf is also a black hole on offense so i don't see the issue with playing shelden williams and unlike AR he knows his limitations. he should be paired with amar'e because he makes up for all of amar'es deficiencies and leaves amar'e do what he does best, help on the weakside. he is a bit slow footed but if he does not want to play him i'll take balkman.
TD, Shawne and Shelden williams should be making up a large portion of mda's 8 man rotation if he wants to go with a short bench. Balkman should be the next guy up and walker should only be put in if melo's in foul trouble. he's our best scorer off the bench. i was SHOCKED when MDA put him in and even though the box score wasn't great, he was fine while he was in (+15 in plus/minus).
we have to nip this in the bud or things can get REAL ugly for us, like bottom 5 defense ugly and dropping to an 8 seed.
