For anyone who wasn't following along, I was staunchly against caving on the 'Melo deal. I thought, in the context of his potential free agency, and our cap space, that we should play hardball and pay less. It was never about thinking any of the players we had were better. I admitted I was being greedy. I wanted it all. I didn't get what I wanted...

But that's in the past now, I'm ready to go. Here's to a new era in Knicks basketball. I've always been a fan of the Knicks and not any one particular player. That will never change. I will enjoy Denver from afar. They are like the Knicks' little brother team. But any disappointment in losing those guys aside, it's all about the orange and blue.

We're going to make the playoffs. We're going to make some noise. We got a new big 3:

Let's get it in.

i was in the no melo camp as well but given the circumstances i can live with having melo... it was an interesting team before but things got a lot more interesting now and i'm real curious how all this eventually plays out...

It hurt a bit. All good trades do. Could we have gotten melo for less? Yup. Could we have raped denver and eaten their children? Maybe. But we now have amare the chosen, melo the ransom, whose price was paid in gold, and billups, the throw in, whose value is measured in so many ways. All in all, I think we'll be great. Billups will make douglas better. Amare will make melo better. Fields will chow down on the freedom that comes from 2 stars on the court. Mozgov is missing though. Our C is deficient. If murphy and jeffries get bought out we make a title run. This team is more complete then then.

Nah. not at all. I know it's hard to fathom that someone wouldn't just plant himself firmly into one position and shout about it incessantly day after day after day, but that's just not me. There's no way to know if we could have signed him outright. There is no way to close the debate. All there is now is 27 games and hopefully a big playoff run.

I'm happy to be able to move on. And I'm happy to put my focus back on supporting my team rather than combating fellow fans on the trade debate. That was the point of the thread. I know there are a lot of us like myself, Ira and FoO. We're fans of the team before we're fans of our own opinions.

I'm glad guys that were against it are warming up to it. The thing I appreciated the most about the deal was the way Walsh made sure we also got Chauncey! That is so huge and I don't think many realized how huge it was. One thing that it did was give us some insurance against the new CBA. If it restricts Star movement, we could keep Chauncey and I'm telling you he'd still have game left to help. Guys like him and Kidd can play at a high level forever, cuz they just know how to play and it's not about freak athletic ability. Even if it's for one additional year, it would give us time to find a permanent replacement for Chauncey. Maybe we bring in a young PG and have Chauncey mentor him. If the CBA is fine, we can just let Chauncey go. It's a really great move by Walsh.

This team may not be deep, but it's real dangerous.

Agree with you on Billups. Walsh was happy with the trade because it was he that got Billups as part of the deal. Walsh, while at Indianapolis, watched many games between the Pacers and the Pistons and he saw what Billups could do. A great addition.
