no one mentioned this when covering Melo deal. No reason we should have accepted Balkmans 2012 cap hit when we threw in the final piece of deal (moz)

If Donnie was really doing this deal i cant see him agreeing to this last throw in. Denver doesnt really need 2012 cap space since they will be well under and not doing the stars thing. Sucks we added to an already shrinking 2012 cap space

COMPLETELY agree with you Big...We should've turned around and told DEN, 'sorry, no deal with Balkman,' the same way they told us 'no deal unless we get Mozgov.' Even if we were bluffing..I said it the other day, imagine if Balkman's salary prohibits us from doing something down the road?? I'd go nuts bro..As little as his salary is, it could pose a problem down the road here..No question about it. I just hope we at least tried to bluff our way outta taking Balkman..Dude can't play anyway -- I'll be shocked if D'Antoni ever plays him at all..

Yes but the alternative is Al Buckets contract and I think Donnie made the right move in picking up the Balkster instead.

Maybe Balkman is going to be moved today and that's why he wasnt with the team last night.

I think the Nuggets must have insisted the Knicks take Balkman back. They hate the guy, after signing him.

He's dead weight at this point. I dunno, maybe he can be bought out and cut his cap hit down a little? hopefully $1.6M won't make or break us?

It's the 2012 offseason. KNicks call up a team with cap space and Donnie Walsh says, "I'll give you $3m to take Balkman's $1.7m." You pocket $1.3m for the 15th guy on your bench."

Won't be hard to find a team to do that.

I hope so bro..Crzy's right: dude's dead weight for sure..We need to move his little contract the hell outta here.

I think Balkman was there though, no? I remember Melo hugging him on the court a few mins before the press conference..

why not? Or you just take back a d-league call-up dude for the day. Same deal structure.

not sure if that is legal but probably is if the team throws in a 2027 2nd rounder!

BTW if we have lets say 14M cap space and a max deal can get 17-18M every 1.6M on our books will be huge in 2012, trust me

Hey maybe..I dunno -- that doesn't circumvent the cap? You can just throw cash money at another team to get out from under a salary with some length to it like that?? Plus the new team would absorb the cap hit even if we put the money right in their pocket, it still limits that team's flxibility, no?? AND Balkman can't play...Dude's not an NBA player so it's not even like the team would be getting a servicable player that would make a move like that worthwhile for them..Hey if it's within the rules and you can find a sucker team out there that'd be willing to do that, by all means..No question.

I think something tangible has to be traded. But there are ways around it, like in the Amar'e sign and trade. The knicks gave up a 2nd round pick with an obscene amount of protection. So I don't believe they'll ever surrender a second round pick. So, whatever

I see fields and billups being shipped out as part of a trade to get one

whats funny is its true. If Moz was nothing more then a big body stiff which is very likely then that 3.5M cap number would have been the end of 2012 dreams

Billups has no value to Hornets who would want young assets

I agree. I don't see trading Balkman as a big problem. Even if we have to throw in a futre 2nd round pick, we can get some team to take him.

Trust the Process
balkmans 1.6M in 2012 can hurt us...
