The Cavaliers and Clippers have agreed upon a trade of Mo Williams for Baron Davis, according to sources that spoke with Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

Williams is signed through the 12-13 season, though he has an early termination option for 11-12 and player option for 12-13, neither of which he's likely to utilize.

Davis is signed at a higher annual rate, but his salary for 12-13 is a partial/non-guaranteed season.

Davis signed a five-year, $65 million contract with the Clippers in the summer of 2008 in what was originally intended to be a chance for him to unite with Elton Brand.

Davis was largely ineffective in his first two seasons on a Clippers' team that had been depleted, but he came into the current season in better shape and energized by the emergence of Blake Griffin.

sorry Cleveland...

Cleveland wins this trade. They're both signed to the same years but Davis' contract can be terminated in 2012-13. And the Cavaliers get the Clippers 2011 lottery pick.

With Melo and Williams shifting east, i see Denver and Utah no longer perennial playoff teams and i see the Clippers and Warriors taking their places. It is good to see LA starting to put pieces around Griffin and Gordon that they need to become a playoff team. Cleveland will get even worse with this trade, if that is possible, but if they get a lottery pick too, it is worth it.

Look at the Clippers salaries for 2012. They are legitimate options for Chris Paul and Deron Williams to get whatever non-Bird max money is available in the new CBA, and with Griffen, Gordon and perhaps Jordan as the core, they could anchor a pretty exciting team. If the team can find a small forward someplace, look out.

In terms of contract, then I agree...but I think B.Davis was finally turning it around over there. I think, as far as production, Williams isnt nearly as talented as Davis, and in that aspect, the Clippers lose.

Utah is rebuilding ahead of the curve. AK is off the books and they stacked with picks.

They got fair value for Williams and the true judge of the trade is how they use the picks and what becomes of favors.

They could always do a package where they perhaps move up in the top 3 picks in a draft and nail a player equal to or better than Deron. If Favors turns into Amare (favors is still only 18) this is great trade. So really it could take 5 years to figure it out.

Utah has a loyal following and they side stepped all Free agent drama by doing this deal and keeping a strong fan base intact.

On paper Nets got a good deal and Utah has big potential down the road. The better teams long term know when to rebuild but its never apparent at the time its done.

Agreed. This will be a step backwards for the Clips. Davis had the ear of his big men, who were steadily growing into their roles. Mo Williams isn't the leader that Davis is.
