As a parent, one can understand the emotional tug of family when you are trying to settle children into a home. Chauncey was uprooted from his family and handled the transition with professionalism and grace. He did not ask who gave the order and he cannot be happy, but it is the life has chosen.

There is something about owning a championship ring that gives one more court cred than anything else. Whatever the mojo is that Austin Powers has, Chauncey Billups owns the original formula. He may not have extended minutes in his 34 year old legs but he IS a leader of men.

It was a beautiful noise that the Garden serenaded him with. It had to make his journey less heart wrenching.

As a recognition of his leadership, and in recognition of our other captain Amare perched one technical foul away from being in a suit for a game, the motion is to nominate Chauncey Billups Captain.

Is there a second?

I posted the same thing on one of these threads, game or another Chauncey thread. The guy just got here and oozes leadership on the court. It is going to be his team by next week whether he is named captain or not. Billups has only played one game for the Knicks but he appears to be one of those guys that is just a tremendous leader. He was a great pick up and I think he will keep egos in check if that comes up with Stat and Melo. So yes I second it. I wish D'Antoni had this type of leader from day 1.

Billups knows the most about winning. misterearl, I support your political beliefs.

While I do not think Billups can bring the frenetic pace of Felton, I do think his intangibles are tangibly off the charts. Felton was good there too, but Billups won a chip on the most balanced team of the past decade. While I never saw the 69-70 Knicks live, that's apparently how they played. I support old school warm-ups, uniforms, and play style

Felton did a good job and the best he could, but Billups is just a better player and has more experience. Thank God, DW and MDA pushed to add him. I think they both could see another Duhon type of second half coming. Like Duhon, Felton had to burn so much energy and of course part of that is the extended minutes but also these guys don't have the kind of game that allows them to conserve energy like Billups. Billups just knows the right tempo to go at and he doesn't waste energy. His leadership is the biggest thing. He truly leads his team and is a coach on the floor. We haven't had that and you can see it's impact already.

I totally agree. I felt like he was the most important player on the court. I can't believe the Knicks were able to get him. It seemed like Denver was dictating the parameters of the trade but I can't see how they could be for losing Billups.

I bet you it was their capologist that convinced them they needed to move Chauncey's contract.

in fairness, Felton makes half as much and probably has 2 or 3 seasons to go before he peaks

He is back!! Yeah earl. I knew you'd understand what transpired. I don't even remember who was on the team.

Melo wins the game. And he's not putting his head down when he misses some shots.

Not a bad debut for an off game.

All the way baby!

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Another thing is that people said that Billups was shot and couldn't guard PG's anymore. He didn't seem to have any problems staying in front of Jennings and the other Buck guards. I think in general his demise has been overstated. If this guy is healthy, which it appears he is, then he's gonna be HUGE in this stretch drive and the playoffs. I mean you can't expect him to stop Rose, who can? We have to do that as a team anyway.

Stat needs to stay the captain. He started this whole thing.

The most promising thing I saw in a sloppy offensive night last night was one set where Melo was on the low left block posting up, drew two defenders, Billups was setting up from the left side of the arc with shooters in their usual spots in the corners. Amare was left with nobody guarding him! He just took the ball at the elbow and went to the basket uncontested.

I look forward to seeing that a dozen times a game.

Big Chief Triangle

JohnWallace - Stat can keep his captain stripes.

Billips fills the co-captain vacancy left by Raymond Felton

(off topic alert) Best Line - "Clyde busted out the tiger stripes for the occasion. I didn't catch his sartorial remarks, but I'm assuming it was tiger print, not, you know...tiger. I don't think they let you do that unless you're KT Tunstall. Anyway, the get-up was overwhelming somehow. Clyde's set an unbelievably high bar for himself. He's going to have to bust out some seriously ungodly materials to continue amazing us. I'm talking about vests of chain mail, ties of eucalyptus, scarves of archaeopteryx down. We're nearing uncharted territory here."

It wasn't even just tiger print. It was tiger print with some kind of wave pattern texture. It looked like one of those pictures that you're supposed to squint at to see a hidden 3D image.

and let's not forget that Billups and Melo barely stepped off the plane before they were in Knick jerseys. didn't even practice with the team. Bringing in Billups is going to make the transition for Melo so much easier. i think this is one of the blessings in disguise for this trade.

The 2 stars are great, but Billups is a HUGE reason why the Knicks are a legitimate threat to any team in the East now.
