christomasson With more and more coming out about Melo deal, looks like Melo/Nuggets officials all worked in concert to tease NJ and drive NY's price up.
I am not sure who this guy is but he came up on the twitter trade link.

The Denver GM said in the press conference said that Melo helped them get a good price. And they helped Melo by sending him where he wanted to go.

If Melo hadn't worked with the Nuggets, he'd be in NJ right now.

And don't anyone turn this into we'd have Deron Williams then... we wouldn't. We didn't have the assets to offer that the Nets did. Again - they basically had three lotto picks to offer. We couldn't come anywhere near that.

This has already been established.

Melo needed the Knicks to make an offer Denver would accept, or they wouldn't have dealt him to NY.

This is no mystery.

Look folks, Denver, I'm sure told Melo that they wouldn't deal him to the Knicks unless he played ball in the media.

Where's the mystery?

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Wait, how do we know this, who's to say the line that Melo would sign with NJ wasn't part of the foil?

We should have called their bluff, at least down to the wire.

Because 'melo is a Knick.

Fellow the logic.

If NJ or Denver WAS never a threat, and it was NY EITHER way why would 'Melo help drive up the price?

At that point he is doing damage to his new team for NOTHING.

There is no motive.

That he's in NY for the price paid is self-defining. The motive is apparent.

Means there either was a chance 'Melo would go elsewhere, or he acted inexplicably.

I choose the explicable.

I do not think Melo wanted to have internal competition from Galo and Chan alike.
He wanted as much money as possible and move his wife to 3-state area.
Also having scrubs aroud at his position will make him look like bbal good.
Knicks is the last thing Melo is concerned about.

Follow the logic.

Melo: I want to go to NY or Chicago.
Den: We don't like what their offering, so "no", unless you can get them to get them to up their offer.
Melo: How?
Den: Tell them you'll go to NJ. Otherwise face the new CBA or stay here.

Like I've said all along, these were not bi-lateral negotiations. There were THREE parties involved. It was clear Melo wanted (1) to get paid and (2) not screw the franchise he left. If donnie had come out with a fair offer to begin with (what I said was Gallo, Chandler, AR/pick, Curry) that price may have been steep but it would've been FAIR, instead of beating one side up on price and the side up on schedule. My graduaute real estate professor use to say you get pick either price or get to pick the terms. Never both. And that's what we tried to do, dictate price and terms, and the deal wasn't reached easily and concessions were made.

Exactly.

'Melo believed "no" was an true possibility, so he had to help them say yes.

I don't think we disagree about at this point.

Understand 'Melo was traded in principle to NJ (or very close to it) three times. What more can the man do to signal the KNicks he really didn't want to go there, but might have to eventually?

Even if that's true, Denver could have still made him pick between signing the extension and facing the CBA uncertainty. Sure, they risk losing him for nothing, but Denver has leverage because they have the star player and I think it's pretty clear that Carmelo wanted that extension but preferred NY.

New York didn't have the assets to get D-Will, so discussing him is pointless.

So the near-trade in December and the near-trade in January, those were all just part of the Nets master plan to ... ummmm .... do what exactly???

right, and what amazes me is that people still believe that "we gave up too much" for Melo. The package wasn't good enough for DWill, but good enough for Melo. Sounds like we got him for market value. we didn't pay a premium or "pay too much"

Looks like we are adamantly in agreement. I must have misread you to begin with.

I would rather have Melo and Billups over Williams anyways, and it's not even close.
