Sources: Knicks, Celts talked Brewer trade

BrewerDespite acquiring Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks apparently aren't resting on their laurels. One of the reasons the call to complete the Anthony deal has been held up all afternoon is New York continues to look at more trade possibilities.

Sources say that the Knicks were looking to bring a fourth team into the deal in order to unload Corey Brewer. Several teams were interested, including the Celtics, but New York couldn't work things out.

One source said that Celtics GM Danny Ainge was actually trying to recruit a fifth team to take Nate Robinson and a Boston first-round pick to complete the deal for Brewer. However, by the end of the afternoon, the Knicks decided to pull the trigger on the deal with Brewer going to New York.

Would you take Nate back for a first rounder? I don't think I want that.

I think it would have to be the 2016 pick.

Apologies. I meant would you take Nate back with a first rounder in tow for Brewer. That is what they are reporting I think.

Nate's talented, but he doesn't work hard, and is loud and a distraction. I wouldn't want to manage him. In fact, I think the "team" works harder when someone like that stops being around

Nate and a first rounder for Brewer? I certainly would've taken that, though I do like Brewer's upside. I think its funny Boston wants to cut bait on Nate already though

different perspective: I think Boston realizes their biggest competitor over the next 2 years will be Miami and Brewer would be a nice dude to have to stick on LeBron/Wade.

They can play Rondo/West minutes at the PG, but Allen ain't really neutralizing anyone with just his O

I would love to keep Brewer and see if he can develop here.

He can defend the 2 and the 3.

3pt shot is something that can be developed, particularly in the offense, since it's always a set shot from a "hot spot".

I think Brewer could be great here - if not, he's a trade chip - which, WAIT, i thought we didn't have ANY trade chips left?!?!

yea.. I wasnt that high on him but VDesai had some good points about his upside. We really need top flight defensive guys to fill out this roster. I loved Brewer in the draft but he hasnt really panned out in the NBA. This could be a good fit for him though...

I too like the prospect of Brewer.

At the same time I have watched zero minutes of him on the court and have no real feel for his game other than he is athletic, is fluid and plays defense.

If he can get over his (reported) bad attitude and focus on defense and a spot-up 3point shot, he has a chance to be a good piece to a championship puzzle.

Playing 3 years in Minnesota would make my attitude crappy too. Missing a year due to ACL and having zero high level vet players around you would dampen anyone's potential growth.

he can win, run, defend, play for a winner, have less pressure as thats on Diva/STAT and this could be a make or break year for him. He's in a good spot.

I think Shawn Williams is better though

Our first game in Minnesota this year, he basically led their comeback, along with KLove. He looked great and played some intimidating defense.

I've seen him look really good against both the Knicks and Spurs this year.

I think he could be an Ariza type here. Which, next to Melo and Amar'e, could be desperately needed.

hey, i love it! Good to hear.

The types of guys the Knicks need around Amare/Melo are exactly what Fields/perhaps Brewer bring. Intangible stuff and defense.

He is a very good defensive player he just doesn't have much of a shot. He is much more important to a team that is trying to win than a team like MInny. I hope he gets minutes.

with his quickness and length...he should be able to guard the faster PG's on any given night...if he can limit the likes of Rondo, Wade and Rose he could be a big addition for the playoffs....there's a reason Boston wanted him!

I think the only thing he is lacking in a consistent jumpshot. But the reports are the his jumpshot is much better than it was last year. The question now becomes can he develop a 3pt shot. He would probably be our best perimeter defender.

Ariza was able to develop that shot, playing alongside Kobe. Wilson was able to playing alongside Amare.

Playing alongside superstars creates wide open shots for roleplayer types. Expect Fields and Brewer to benefit from a lot of wide open looks.

Look at Shannon Brown - dude is decent, but playing alongside Kobe he routinely gets 15pts on wide open threes and dunks.
