Knicks trying to get Camby in Melo deal
Posted on: February 22, 2011 5:15 pmScore: 172
Log-in to rate:Log-in to rate:Log-in to rate:GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- One of the notable holes in the Knicks' roster that will persist after the Carmelo Anthony trade is a capable, defensive-minded center. The Knicks tried to fill that hole with efforts to draw Portland into the deal as the fourth team and bring Marcus Camby back to New York, two people with knowledge of the talks told CBSSports.com.

It wasn't clear what pieces the Knicks would've sent to the Trail Blazers in such a scenario, but both sources said Tuesday afternoon that New York's efforts to get Camby appeared to have failed.

"Looks like a no-go," said one of the sources.

The Blazers are actively shopping Camby, Joel Przybilla and Andre Miller and are very likely to make at least one deal before Thursday's trade deadline. Given the uncertain futures of Brandon Roy and Greg Oden, Portland general manager Rich Cho is trying to flip the expiring contract of Przybilla and the essentially expiring deal of Miller (whose contract is fully non-guaranteed next season) for draft picks and younger players.

There was still a chance that the three-team trade sending Anthony and Chauncey Billups to the Knicks could evolve Tuesday. As of 5 p.m. ET, the teams still had not begun the conference call wiht league officials to approve the trade.

If the deal isn't finalized, they can direct Brewer to Portland, which circumvents the "no flipping players in multi-player trade" rule.

Brewer, Azubuike, Mason Jr. and perhaps a Rautins would be my guess as a pure 2011-2012 cap move for Portland, which is probably why it isn't getting done.

That's not bitterness. That's fact. The only thing left on the menu besides Stat/Melo/Billups is Fields.

That's like saying the only thing left on the Spurs menu after Duncan, Ginobli and Parker is Blair. The Knicks have overnight transformed their roster into an exponentially more talented one.

Yup... we have nothing left of any value to offer- I think we even gave up all our #2s.

Would they take some attractive MSG interns or some of our Knicks dancers for Camby?

Great idea but like others have said, it's too bad the cupboard is really bare.

Why did the Knicks give up so much when there was no chance that Carmelo would have signed an extension with the Nets and were Denver's only realistic trade partner?

There was a real chance that Melo would have taken the money to stay in Denver. Forget the nets.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

That's why they call it negotiating. Too bad Dolan is a moron when he doesn't have Cablevision lawyers to hide behind and we know all about Isiah's negotiating skills.

Our bench is pretty much the same sans Chandler.

What we really lost was size with Mozgov. Really wish we didn't cave on that part, but the deal is what it is now, and all I can do is root for these Knicks and hope we make further moves to fill the hole. As nice as Mozgov's potential was, it was only just potential. If we can get Camby, it would be a coup. The guy was still 2nd in defensive rebounding rate to just Love this season before he went down I believe.
