Carmelo makes the Knicks instant contenders. Yeah we're still a piece or two away but much closer than we were a few days ago. This team is better than the team we had and I'm excited to watch Stat, Melo and the boys hit the hardwood tomorrow. GO NEW YORK, GO NEW YORK GO!!!!!!!!

All we need now is to trade Brewer, Fields, and that pick for OJ Mayo.

Amare
Carmelo

Everyone is happy with 28-26 but add the best scorer in the NBA and now the Knicks are terrible? No worries, when Melo is droppiong 30 a game and the Knicks finish 10 over for the stretch run you guys will come around.

CashMoney (Joined: 1/15/2011) : do you understand that people here worry about the Knicks management team more than the trade in itself ? Do you realize the impact of having Dolan run the team on his own, getting involved i nfront of Walsh ?

I do not believe he and the other folks that are being too short sighted do realize where the concerns of the concerned originate.

There are very few folks that don't or didn't actually want Melo on the team, it's just that most of those that did had a "better" deal in mind and not one that screwed Denver or anything, just one that didn't gut the Knicks's depth.

Did we get a good player? Yes.. the Diva will have his monster games here, there is no doubt. Was it a good trade that brought him here? It was pretty much the worst scenario possible. We bankrupted our assets to build around two guys who dont defend anyone and we are left with massive holes at center and PG where we had a good young PG and a promising prospect at center.

Its really too bad Mosgov had that big game. It would have been a game changer if we could have hung on to him.

Date joined is the only objective measure we have of the intensity of your fan-ness. Otherwise, we'd have to just take your word that you've been a fan for x years. So the only prudent thing to do is assume you became a fan on the day you joined. In fact, you probably joined UK before you became a fan.

Agreed. This team will win some games but with the lack of size, they will suffer. I hope DW can make a deal for a C because if not, this team will get killed.

I was against giving up all these assets.

To me Mozgov and Gallinari should not have been traded.

If it's true that you need legit stars to contend in the NBA--and it is certainly true--then what were the other options? Melo doesn't sign, doesn't it make it tougher to attract other high-end free agents? And since the Miami Superfriends formed, I'm convinced the days of premier NBA free agents are over anyway, so who's to say you could even pick up a marquee name in free agency?

So we don't sign Melo. Then what? We cross our fingers and wait for 2012, uncertain of the new CBA and putting another year of mileage on Amare? Or we cross our fingers and hope that Wil (who most definitely was NOT going to be signed after this year) and/or Gallo turn into stars? I love those guys, but they were both inconsistent this season and seeing them both be on simultaneously was as rare as a JD Salinger sighting. And Felton fell off a cliff for the last month and a half or so.

If it's the mechanics of the deal, with Dolan or Isiah possibly lurking in the shadows, then I get the rancor. Trust me: no one thinks those douches are more pathetic than I do, but no one knows how it REALLY went down right? We've got conflicting reports and that's it.

The sad truth is, lower seeds don't win NBA titles. And unless you have more than one star, you're likely a lower seed. This isn't the any-given-Sunday NFL. Sure we might be able to take a game, maybe two, from Miami or Boston, but not a series. Maybe Melo won't be the Messiah and Mozgov will turn into Soviet-Hakeem and Gallo will get over his aversion to memory foam and morph into a top-shelf baller--but taking a shot while the getting's good is preferable to lovable, but sustained mediocrity, right?

Dolan's operating more at the tic-tac-toe level.
