to make sure they took nice salaries but not harm the ability of the team to get better.


Carmelo Anhony only cares about getting his 25mm and being home--at the end of the day does he give a F? It doesnt seem that way how do you win that way?

NBA fans are going to be very embittered in the next few years hoping and/or expecting the Miami 3 has redefined the market.

It happened once and the reason it happened because it happened at the same time. They all took less assured that each was making the same sacrifice.

You aren't getting NBA stars to leave money on the table, on the promise the next couple of guys who come along year and two later do the same. You get a max star to take less and then another comes along and doesn't, and you got a bad situation on your hands.

People have to vent, and this is just another side of the issue. Folks are claiming that nobody would walk from the money Melo MAY not get if he does not get his extension, yet you have before you the example of the Miami boys, who are making less $$ than f'n Joe Johnson, whose final salary is almost $25 M/yr.

Anthony is hamstringing the Knicks, not only salary-wise, but talent wise, if the worst case scenario goes down here.

It's a stars league. You get the stars and pay them the big bucks, then look for role players on the cheap. Miami had to do this and found a way. That's the formula if you go this route and pay the stars their top dollar.

I had a bad feeling about Melo to begin with but I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. After his comments, NOT rumors, I just see that he doesn't care about the team at all, it's about his money.

Who would go to NJ with no team around them? Melo
Who would accept a trade to the Knicks with everyone traded away? Melo
Who just cares about the money now? Melo

This is the opposite of LBJ Bosh and Wade, they want to win. Melo just wants his money.

I REALLY HOPE MELO GOES TO NJ WITH NO TALENT AROUND HIM. Will be fun to watch this TEAM womp them and throw fake money into the arena.

I'd have so much more respect for Carmelo if he came here as an FA. Yeah the CBA is unclear but the new max contract is obviously going to still be high enough that he'll never have to worry about money in his or his kids' or their kids' etc. futures. He should be drooling over the possibility of joining a team with Amare, Felton, Fields, and Gallo rather than salivating over the possibility of getting a little more immediate cash.

Oh and great thread...the greed aspect deserved its own unique thread because it says so much about the motives of the player we'd be getting relative to that of LBJ, Bosh, and Wade.

I agree - if this kid wants to win, he waits until FA to get paid and joins a team with pieces. Otherwise it's all about him and we don't need that here.

I completely agree with BRIGGS. I hope they took advantage of that meeting with Melo to make him realize he had EVERYTHING to win by waiting for FA and join a knicks team full of assets that could make him win in the NBA, or become graet trade chips for a 3rd star like D-Will or CP3.

If we trade all our team for him and pay him 25m, we'll have no chance to improve our roster, no asset whatsoever, and he and STAT will lose their prime years playing the prima donnas on a average team.

I dont have a problem with guys wanting to get paid... Briggs you have been in that spot. You know what your worth, its your got given right as an American to get it.

To me this has little to do with Melo. This is about the Knicks and whats right for the Knicks. Melo has a big price tag. So did Amare. This comes down to whats right for this team.

I have over and over again.. the two guys we need at Gallo and Mosgov. They combine the uber valueable combo of size, skill and athleticism and desire to improve and win as a team. I can live with losing Felton, Chandler, Fields, AR... etc etc.

If we are going to make an elite team Amare/Melo the two guys you need to glue it together are Gallo and Mosgov.

I think Fields, Williams & Walker will absorb the shots that Gallo would normally take and if we add Barron along with Shelden, we can make up for what Mosgov was doing. In the end this is a deal we have to make. It improves the starting lineup and overall strength of the team. When Amar'e sits, we still have a Superstar on the floor to take over.

I still say Chandler, Curry, Fields, AR (or pick). No more.

Melo must understand that to win a Ring, he needs the help of his teammates. He needs a rebounding and intimidating big. THat's Mozogv. He needs someone to drain the open jumper when he is posting down low. That is Gallo. TD or Az can take over Fields role.


I would rather take the risk of signing him as a FA than give up Gallo and/or Mozgov.
