I hope he signs with them. Then we can move one. Michael Jordan ain't worth what Denver wants for him.

I think he is crazy if he goes to NJ. I am not totally sure why he leaves Denver for NY. The Nuggets are a better team than either destination he is going to. He is slightly better than VC in NJ and that isn't enough without Jason Kidd. If he goes to NJ he is either terrified of the new cba or he was convinced by the Russian, King and Jay Zee. I lose a lot of respect for him if the latter is the case.

I think we could at least take back felton.

I don't want anybody here that doesn't belong....Bilups is a Denver guy...Thats his home, and he's made that known.

Felton wants to be here...I think he will sign for cheap as well....and would play any role, starter or off the bench for C.Paul or D.Williams.

The whole thing is weird. NJ is the worst of all 3 teams. NY at least has an All Star PF in place to pair up with. I still can't see why he'd chose the Nets over the Knicks under any circumstances. We're ahead of them now and will be even more so if he came to NY. All this does is delay the process and give Denver the idea they can rip us off. I guess we'll know for sure sometime tomorrow evening or Monday.

I guess what concerns me is that it is reported that Carmelo said that he will sign with the Nets if the Knicks can't get a trade done. If this is accurate, who decides if the Knicks can get a trade done? If he is relying on the relaying of this info to come from the Nuggets I think he is a Net.

I just don't trust Carmelo. He could end this right now. I think we better prepare to get LeBroned again. His agent is the same agent for LeBron and with all the money that the Russian have he probably have his agents in his pockets. I think that we are missing something here. If Melo wanted to come to New York Knicks there would have not been a meeting with the Nets. I believe Denver told him that they are willing to sit and take a loss but he ain't coming to New York. Now Denver is asking for all of our starters with the exception of Amare. Kiss my butt and let's go home and no one on this forum better not say one bad thing about management because they did thier best. I don't trust Carmelo. Remember all the hints LeBron gave. Walsh had a fire sale in order to bring LeBron here.Something just ain't right. I smell a rat.

My sense is that Melo is scared crapless to go into FA in light of the new CBA. I suspect his agents are doing very little to allay his fears. Denver is calling his bluff in saying they wont trade him if they don't like the offer. His knees are shaking and he's confused. He's not operating out of confidence.

What does denver have over Melo? Why does he only say he'll sign with Knicks?

If they don't trade him will then rescind the extension?

melo is really giving Denver value by not exercising his leverage.

The long-awaited meeting between Carmelo Anthony and the New Jersey Nets took place late Saturday afternoon at a Los Angeles-area restaurant, according to a league source.

The Nets owner, Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, and minority owner Jay-Z informed Anthony of the club's short-term and long-term vision -- the certainty of their move to Brooklyn for the start of the 2012-13 season, as well as their plans to build a championship-caliber team around him, largely through free agency.

Anthony was noncommittal after hearing the Nets' presentation, not saying whether or not he would sign the three-year, $65 million contract extension that is a prerequisite for the deal. He told the Nets he will think about the situation and would like to have a resolution before the end of the weekend.

The meeting lasted approximately 40 minutes. In addition to Prokhorov and Jay-Z, Nets general manager Billy King and CEO Brett Yormark were also present. Anthony was joined by his agent Leon Rose, as well as his business manager, Bay Frazier.

The New York Daily News first reported the meeting was planned.

The meeting happened despite Prokhorov saying earlier Saturday he had no plans to meet with Anthony. A spokeswoman for the Prokhorov, Elllen Pinchuk, released a statement saying that Prokhorov had not met with Anthony and has no plans to meet with the Denver Nuggets star.

"Just to update you, Mikhail has not met with and has no plans to meet with Carmelo Anthony," Pinchuk said. "He is looking forward to enjoying All Star Weekend. We will have nothing else to add on this."

The Nets and Nuggets recently renewed trade talks for Anthony for the third time this season. However, Anthony, who can became a free agent after this season, insisted twice Friday that no meeting was planned with Prokhorov.

Anthony wouldn't answer when asked about a New York Daily News report that he met with Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan on Thursday.

The Nuggets have looked into trading Anthony since he declined to sign a three-year contract extension worth nearly $65 million this season. The Nets were close to a deal twice, and the New York Knicks are considered the other favorite to land Anthony if Denver decides to move him.

Anthony wants something to happen soon, but hasn't received any indication from Nuggets executive Josh Kroenke that it will.

"I believe that me and Josh have a good relationship. Since he became the owner, we've been talking a lot. The lines of communication have been open," Anthony said. "I do believe that if something was to break or happen, that he would call me or he would sit down with me and explain it."

Either team would have to give up a big portion of its roster to land Anthony.

"If anything was to happen with whatever team, of course, I would want a team to be able to compete with," Anthony said. "As far as all the players that's in the deal, that's supposed to be in the deal, yeah, that's a lot of players for one guy."

The Nuggets approached the Nets in the past week to see if they were still interested in acquiring the small forward, sources told ESPN.com.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Nets and Nuggets discussed a deal that would have sent point guard Devin Harris, rookie forward Derrick Favors, the No. 3 pick in the draft, others and at least three of the Nets' five first-round draft picks over the next two seasons to Denver for Anthony, point guard Chauncey Billups and others.

The Nets were close to a deal for Anthony in training camp and there was a 10-day span in January when the Nets and Nuggets appeared on the verge of pulling off a blockbuster 15- or 16-player, three-team deal with Detroit that would have brought Anthony to New Jersey.

When the deal lingered without resolution, Prokhorov ended the speculation in dramatic fashion, saying the lingering talks were hurting his team. He also cited the high price the Nuggets were seeking and his frustration with the public nature of the talks.

On Thursday, Prokhorov's spokeswoman insisted that Prokhorov had not changed his mind with the impending NBA trading deadline approaching.

Knicks All-Star Amare Stoudemire denied a report that he was against the reported deal for Anthony.

"I don't know where you heard that from. You didn't hear it from me," he said. "It's always a touchy topic because you don't want to offend anyone ... but Carmelo is obviously a friend. He's from New York, New York loves him."

AmazinAmazinAmazin says: February 19, 2011, 4:30 PM ETI just don't understand why it seems as if Melo is assisting Denver to get the Knicks to give more than they should at this point. I mean why would Melo want the Knicks to give up depth and so much talent that they are reduced in NY?
Doesn't make sense to me...
If Melo says "I WANT NY" then the deal will be whatever NY offers. As long as Melo plays this stuff "being on the fence", then NY feels the need to add more players to reach an agreement...The NBA On ESPN.com

I don't like that the offer has been increased or that Dolan is involved but the Nets were offering something similar back in October. It is hard to sift thru the bs at this point.

This is simple math. He just doesn't want out of Denver. He just doesn't want the extension. He wants to go to one specific place, and he's at the mercy of Denver to allow all that to happen.

This gives Denver leverage, and he needs the to have it.

The more leverage NY has, the less incentive Denver has to make a deal.

He NEEDS each side to get something they can live with. That's how he gets all the things we wants.

Stop blaming Dolan. Blame Carmelo for not being truthful. Walsh and D'Antoni sat on their butts doing nothing and nothing will get us nothing. It's not Dolan's fault. We were used as a pawn. At least we know that we did the best we could. The hand writing was on the wall when Carmelo didn't back us up. Carmelo wants that money and he will be the King of Brooklyn. So be it.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/211129/Sources_Carmelo_Wont_Sign_Extension_With_Nets

Carmelo Anthony has informed people close to him that he will not sign an extension with the Nets, according to sources.

Anthony has had a longstanding preference to play for the Knicks.

If the Knicks and Nuggets are unable to complete a trade, Anthony must still weigh his options of whether to risk not signing an extension with the looming uncertainty of the NBA's next collective bargaining agreement.

- Now if this is the case, does this prompt NY to perhaps lessen the offer to Denver. Who does NY have to compete against to get the deal done. I'm okay with sending away Wilson Chandler or Gallo...along with the string of expiring deals

but i'd like to keep fields and at least one of either gallo/chandler...to play alongside 'melo

I cant see him going to NJ, but then again I said there was no way Lebron would go to Miami either so what do i know...If we keep the team we have its still a nice core and we can still go for another big name soon. I wouldnt really be mad if we missed out on Melo but i dont want Melo in our division/conference so if we dont get him hopefully he sticks it out in denver...

There are just to many made-up sources and rumors passed as truth. Knicks cant pull anyone off the table nor dictate this trade unless Carmelo himself comes out and says "I'm only signing the extention with the Knicks." I know he's careful with what he says in public, but he could easliy inform Denvers FO behind the scenes.....
