The Spurs are the blueprint. Deep team with mutli skilled two way players. very similar to what detroit had in its two runs. There is no big three there so to speak.

The Knicks have a nice deep young talent base. If we trade Randolph--we will have two first round picks plus a boatload of cap space. I think we can resign Chandler for something along the lines of an MLE. Gallo WC Chandler Douglas Mosgov will all get better next year and we should be a hard out in the playoffs this year. The net-net on the trade =0 we are better off staying as is. If Melo really wants to come here--FA is there.

My hope is DW has a secondary plan where maybe we bring in a Dalembart and Sessions at the deadline if this thing goes no where.

we will be great with or without him. this is a good YOUNG team now--next year we will be MUCH improved from within and additions. Im confidant that we should stay the course. Either get melo for a very reasonable fee before deadline--or FA. If he really wants to come here that will be the case. If not have fun somewhere else. Getting better in the NBA is a process and if we build a team that is very strong 1-12 like dallas like SA---we will be right up there.

I agree with most of that, but I don't think we can sign Chandler for the MLE or something close to it.

I think you are better off going with the camby, sprewell, Houston or Ewing knick comparisons.

Where amare is Ewing and Chandler and Gallo are Starks and mason.

We'll definitely sniff some magical years and if the ball bounces right win a title.

Starks tried valiantly to beat the rockets.
Camby tried his best against Duncan.

But alas, no stars (plural) no rings.

That team made me a fan, so I'd rather keep the farm and take my chances in free agency.

Just like Rasheed going to Detroit, if it is meant to be it's meant to me.

Would you have traded Starks and mason for pippen or for drexler?

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

We're contending for anything but the 5th or 6th seed without melo for the next 5 years.

Miami will be the team to beat next five yrs. They got their own version of an alliance with Wade/Lebron and Bosh.

In order to beat that, you would need your own version of 3 all stars. Right now, we only have 1.

2nd team in the league for next 5yrs will be Chic Bulls.

The Future. GO KNICKS!

Parker was drafted and they developed him. Not trade him for Jason Kidd. Manu was euro player (from argentina) and came here at 26. Not trade his rights before he even played a game.

Spurs grew the rest of the team around duncan.

Melo is fine at the right price.

That is the whole point. Walsh has to play The Price is Right with Denver to get Melo at the right price. Like Briggs say, Knicks will be great with or without Melo. Put a little trust in the old man.

I agree somewhat. The knicks can be great without Melo, with good management. We're young (2nd youngest team in the nba over .500) have cap room and a desirable location. I don't get this notion that it's all over if we don't sign Melo. There's no guarantees but we're in a good position.

I'm with you on rolling the dice on signing melo as a free agent. That would make us scary. Gutting the team of our youth would make us slightly better than the Hawks. I say we don't make a move unless Denver gets a real offer from someone else. We can't be afraid of Melo playing out the season in Denver.

All we need are tons of low probability events to all happen. Then we're set!

Spurs might be a good blueprint, but where is our Tim Duncan? We have no one who can even compare to him in his prime. If they win it this year that'll be a nice confirmation of the system working. Untill that happens (and I don't see it) they have only won with teams built around an all-world Tim Duncan.

Tim Duncan is far from his prime. hes still very good but not the same 23-12-3 guy

If you think you can re-sign Chandler for the MLE, why wouldn't you trade him for Melo and re-sign him for the MLE? Or do you think Denver would match? You think he would give a hometown discount? I really don't think he would.

Chandler is like anoy other player. He's going to try and get as much as he can whether it's with the Knicks or someone else.

Exactly. Which is why I would credit "the blueprint" if they win this year. If not, you still can't look at the blueprint as the prime reason for all those previous titles with a prolific Duncan on all those teams..

i'm just curious - alot of times as knick fans we often look at other teams and covet their players.. i wonder if the same people who don't think this team has a very good young nucleus, what they would think of it from another team's point of view.
