Let's say the framework of the deal is something like....

Chandler, Randolph(1st round), Curry.... and Denver said you have to include EITHER

Gallo or Fields...

Which would you let go of to make this deal happen?

I'd trade Gallo
I'd trade Fields
I would not include either
I'd trade both

me I trade Gallo and i'll tell you why......

1. He will be totally ineffective once Melo arrives. He will be turned into a 7 foot tall Steve Kerr. Gallo already needs MORE touches than he is currently getting.. With Melo? forget it. Spot up shooter, thats it.

2. Fields can be effective without the ball and is a winner. Perfect compliment to Amare/Melo

3. What position do you play Gallo at!??!!? SG? good luck. PF?? GOOD LUCK.. Fields plays SG melo plays SF, Amare at PF... we have to build a TEAM here.

To me it's clear cut.... I love Gallo but, I protect Fields before I protect Gallo in this deal if I'm Donnie.

i'd trade Gallo because of the cap savings & position he plays... i think Fields makes more sense to keep... i'd also just buy a 1st round pick & hold onto AR if i could... if nothing else he could become a valuable piece to use in another trade down the road, or God forbid he actually gets some playing time & becomes a valuable part of the rotation.

It's funny but I was thinking the same thing. There has to be a team out there willing to sell a pick, so why send away a good young prospect if you don't have to. AR is still so young that you don't really want to deal him if you can get by without it. Even tho he hasn't caught on yet, it doesn't mean he won't ever catch on. The talent is still there and he's cheap too.

Gallinari stays because he will drop the trey buckets, the free throws, the dunk shots, he'll dish the rock, he wont turn it over, he'll hit the clutch shot, he's not afraid of anyone, he'll take on LeBron and punk him, he's just the man, and he's almost 7'0"

I voted keep Fields, but I'm not so sure... Although I think he's a better fit with Melo.

Long term, Gallo may have the higher ceiling. Which could net a better return, by moving him later for a true big.

Not sure Fields skill set and size, could do the same in terms of trading up.

Love Fields, but Gallo has the higher ceiling and is already the better player. Fields mainly rebounds better but when you think of it, that's pretty much it.... and I love Fields.

i like fields alot especially as a second round draft pick...he does a mice job of rebounding especially on the offensive glass...i wonder though if we had a real center who played 35 min a nite how many would he be grabbing in total

If I could make a deal where I trade Felton and then keep both, I would. It'd look something along the lines of Felton/Chandler/AR/1st Round Pick and Eddie Curry. I feel that Gallo and Melo don't fit well together in a starting lineup, but I feel that Gallo could really flourish and help this team win in a situation where he's the go-to-guy in the team's second unit because he'd get more touches.

I think I'm in the same boat. Gallo clearly has the tools to succeed, and since he's come back from his injury, he seems like he's finally getting it, driving and getting to the line almost effortlessly. We just need to see some consistency.

I do love Landry though, and I'd hate to see either one go, but I give Denver either one for Melo, just not both.

Gallo has the higher ceiling, but for him to be a starter (with Fields traded), you would have to have:

Amare- C
Gallo/Melo- PF
Gallo/Melo- SF
???- SG
Felton (Billups?)- PG

You really don't want Amare playing too much time at C because you really want a rugged defender/shot blocking rebounder at the position, IMO, and Gallo/Melo might face problems guarding larger PFs in the post.

I don't want either to go, but Fields would be a better fit in the lineup, since neither Melo or Galo can play SG for any extended period of time.

If Gallo stays he either bulks up and plays PF, put him on the bench, or Melo plays PF, which probably won't work out.

I'm trying to hold on to as many guys as I can. This includes AR, Gallo and Fields. As much as I like Will, I see where he becomes redundant with Anthony here. I include Felton. Maybe Gallo could get a few more shots without Felton chucking it up from 3 point land. Billups might be more willing to hit the open man.

Gallo has the higher ceiling, but people who'd rather keep him need to realize that:

a) He's not going to be a good fit with Melo/Amar'e, and forces one or two of our forwards to play out of position
b) He's going to get even LESS attempts and usage rate, pretty much relegating him to a spot-up shooter (which he isn't even that reliable at)
c) Next season he'll be on his last year of his rookie deal, so those suggesting we can just flip him for a position of need are overestimating what his value will be on the trade market...and if our intent is to trade him for a position of need, why not hold onto the player who WOULD fit, and fills a hole at SG already?
d) Lastly, going after Paul/Deron in 2012 may be a pipe dream, but if were to still hold onto that, Gallo is an absolute goner. Fields, on the other hand, can foreseeably be kept.

e) Fields is landrier than Gallo, and the Modell's youtube clip > Gallo singing Halo.

No brainer for me. Keep Fields.

once he gets slotted into the SF spot his game is will blow up. Not to mention the Knicks. Fields/Melo/Amar'e. I'm happy with Felton, that just leaves a need for a true SG and backups. I wonder if Ben Gordon or Stephen Jackson are available. I don't know if that team wins a chip. I do know that you can continue to add to that team and would have significant upside

I think Melo is capable of playing SG. I'd keep Gallo either way. Fields is solid. Has the intangibles, may or may not have hit his ceiling to some extent. Gallo shows flashes of being an all star.

I think Fields does too. 17 rebounds in a game is no joke. I'll take 17 rebound potential over 8 or 9 3PM--especially when the two would be stars aren't the roll-your-sleeves up type on the defensive end
