A Knicks source confirms that Mark Warkentien's deal runs thru this year's NBA Draft. Also, the hiring was made by Dolan...the plot thickens

This is horrible news on the Donnie front... I think it basically means Dolan is pressuring Donnie to get the Melo deal done by the trade deadline or Donnie is out.

We have the worst owner in pro sports.

I also read that Warkentein was mentored by Donnie, and that every trade Mark considered making in Denver, he would run by Donnie Walsh first. So....... although we do have the worst owner in all of sports, I do not think Warkentein is a product of his. The rumors are Donnie and Dolan never speak, and this 09 executive of the year who is also Donnie's friend was brought in to communicate between the two. I just wonder what Isiah Thomas is doing during all of this.

Let me re-interpret this interview process for everyone. I'll also remind everyone that Isola has been pretty much blue-balled by most everyone in the Knicks organization, so him having access to anyone significant is very low.

Q: Will Mark Wark be here for this year's draft?
A: Yes.
Online report: "A Knicks source confirms that Mark Warkentien's deal runs thru this year's NBA Draft." Doesn't mean he isn't signed for more. Pretty much is useless into standing by itself.

Q: Who signed the Mark Wark's contract, Walsh or MSG?
A: MSG.
Online: "Dolan hired Mark." Really.

Also note that Berman used the phrase "NBA source" when writing the same article a couple of days ago and now Isola uses "Knicks source". Prob the same person who is apart of CAA, but now because he is on Mark's team and under contract with team can pronounce himself "Knicks source".

blah.

CAA would want us to believe that Dolan and company are undermining Donnie so that their guy Mark gets the Pres Job later down the line.

its impossible to sift through the crap to get the half ounce of truth that may or may not be present in these rumors.

What would Dolan's MO be for having Walsh removed? Walsh doesnt make noise, he represents the Garden and MSG with great professionalism.

As for Dolan pushing Walsh to get a Melo deal done I dont have a big problem with that. Dolan understands Melo is a good investment for the Garden and the Knicks on a ton of levels. Whats wrong with an owner telling a GM that he wants a certain guy? As I have said 100x its all about costs.

Why is Walsh not being extended a bad thing? This is a big wait and see... right now its a non issue. If it becomes clear Walsh is being pushed out we can deal with that when it happens.

The non-extension should be a non-issue ... but it isn't because: this is NY, this is Dolan's team, Zeke was (maybe still is) his man, and sportswriters and we are writing about it (back to "this is NY"). Donnie is as cool as they come dealing w/ crap like this, but even he can't help but be affected. If Dolan isn't going to extend him now, he'd be wise to give a strong verbal vote of confidence along with a bland "we'll take care of the contract when the time is right" kind of a quote. But who ever mistook Dolan for wise.

I believe Dolan is squeezing Donnie to get a deal done. Which, okay, the deal Broussard is pitching is a no-brainer. But you have to believe Denver will need more. Which Donnie will be hesitant to do, rather than add Melo essentially for free this summer. That's where we see if Dolan can be a little patient or if he wants his new toy NOW NOW NOW. If Dolan gets too impatient here, I think Donnie is the one who takes the fall if it doesn't get done.

If the Knicks don't get Melo and lose in the first round, I'm sure Isiah and CAA will be in Dolan's ear that even Isiah got to the first round and lost. Yes, I think Dolan is that stupid.

Donnie was interviewed & said he decided to hire Warkentein because he knew he was a good basketball guy & knew he could work with him... until DW says different or he gets fired, i'm gonna believe what he says.
