Is KT really that good compared to the other PF in the league. I like the guy but is he really hurting us more than helping us. Yeah he has a good shot from 15ft but don't we need a better low post player than him for when the shots are not falling. He Plays good D but i'm not sure it is good enough to hang with other pfs in the league. when NY is on fire shoting its all great but when were not it is all bad. If kvh would be a strong post player he could take care of the inside scoring problem but since he wants to be a wing player we still need a real post player. its really starting to get uglyier when mutumbo gets the ball on the block. I beleive that NY needs to get a stronger PF. KT plays off. like a sf in a PFs body( a little similar to kvh but without the range and more toughness). NY need a PF in a PFs body( i mean in the trences of the paint fighting for position/ rebounds and using back to the basket moves).

I just think that a lot of us want to keep KT because he is OUR best player in the PF spot but the problem is: Is he among the better PF in the League???/ is he the type of PF we need???

i think kurt thomas has the skills that many powerforwards in the leagues dont have, yet many PFs in the league has some skills he doesnt have.

To make it simple, Kurt doesnt have any athleticism, isnt very tall, isnt very wide, and doesnt have any post game.

He brings toughness and hustle plays which inspires teammates and gives them hope even when it looks like an off night...

does have a decent 15 foot jumper, plays decent defense, however, many players can go straight up on him after they establish position

in the end, my point is saying kurt is a pretty good PF and could be great if he played next to someone like dampier or shaq. He needs a team to can cover his loss of athleticism and size. Someone to eat the paint so he can have that wide open jumper sometimes, and sometimes he can just cut in the paint or hustle for the offensive rebound..

In the end, its quite simple as everyone knows.... we need to upgrade 2/3 position on our starting roster.
SF,PF,C in my opinion, we need an athletic small forward to cover the defensive liabilities our 100million man has....yet he also must have an all round game
a player that has the skills of odom would be the answer, problem is that odom is the only guy i know that has those skills in the league.
however if we dont get such a player it will still be okay, we mite not be a great defensive team however, we can become a good rebounding team instead, what layden tried to do...

I really would hate to see Kurt go as a knick fan because i really believe hes the last of the toughness, since the days of van gundy and oakley, he has done everything in the best of his power that he can....., and i believe hes the last hustle and toughness off the team (anderson doesnt count, someone that will actually play 30+ minutes...)

Ever since Kurt became a vegetarian, and got down to 220 lbs., he doesn't have the bulk to play PF as effectively as he once did. There isn't enough added quickness and speed to compensate for the diminished bulk.

That said, his trade value is high because of his contract. The time to trade him is now.

here is what i noticed with kurt thomas:

strength- tough player who gives his all every night. effective 15 ft. jumper and turn around jumper near the basket. scrappy defender who uses his strength as an advantage. very strong. good rebouder especially defensively. a good team player- willing to play and do anything the team needs.

weaknesses- foul prone to level of chris dudley portions some nights. hot-headed. not a good offensive rebounder. not athletic since his ankle surgeries. role and bench player only. overrated. no reliable post up weapons. arrogant.

i say trade him now. his cons far woutweight his pros. he's a solid 6th man but nothing more. as long as he's here, we're never going to be able to take that next step. we can't upgrade the PF postion b/c number 1, he's going to start whining and number 2, he's going to be getting around $8 mil/year. i say move him now.

Personally I have never liked KT but he seems to be a necessary evil on the Knicks. If he can be traded for someone good I say pull the trigger.

yea I agree with all of these posts--kt needs to be traded asap.

he has nothing to offer on offense-his 15 footer?yea doleac can shoot better and take it to the rim at least somewhat.

his defense?well he can't block a shot, and people can blow right by him. he has some decent stregnth so he can't be backed down by the middle/lower tier post players, not a big deal, you can get that by signing a guy out of the WWF to come play for us. he does what the team asks of him? that is a cliche that is really weak when put to KT i think. well i'd like to ask him to score, defend, and get offensive boards-he can't do those things well at all.
