In my eyes it is obvous now that Gallo + Chanlder impact-wise is not even close to Melo. If that is what it takes, we need to make the move.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

This seems like a doable.

Gallo should not be traded. He must set up as the second option. When he has the ball good things happen

We shouldnt trade any of them for melo--we should get him as a free agent.

If anything--maybe we should do an asset trade for Will--as in a first round pick and a player with an ending contract.

I agree but Walsh went all in last year just to have a chance at signing a second big name free agent. I don't know if he can pass up the opportunity to get a talent like Melo. I also think Dolan is a star chaser and might push for the move. I hope Walsh can be patient and keep this team together but I think the chance to get Melo might be too much for him to pass up.

Can't we still trade Will in the summer - and possibly get something back at that time. Any team that signs him will have to have cap room - we can send him on his way, get back a first rounder perhaps and trade exemption, and still then add melo.

I don't know that we need to move him for an asset as Fish suggested in his thread.

And even if we move him for Melo - I think we may miss his defense more than we think.

I like Chandler as he can play the 2,3 or 4. As for his defense, last night it was pretty bad, that is why Williams was in. Did you see Gallo and Williams on LBJ? That was good defense. Also who aggrssivley closed out on Jones 3 in the last minute?

I can see MDA running:

Felton
Fields
Gallo
Melo
Amare

that is pretty damn good. I just hope they can hold onto Fields and Gallo.

That's way too much unless we know Melo's gonna sign (and extend) somewhere else. I don't understand why you guys think being capped out with Stat/Melo and zero assets is the path to a title.

Gallo or Wilson + AR + Curry. That's as much as I'm giving up.

Way to go Briggs. I was waiting for this post from you and you didn't disappoint. I am kinda of mixed.....I think best if get Melo in the offseason. But if we can get Melo this season and only give up Chandler + AR + Curry's contract + 2nd rounder, do it. Because we lock up Melo. A bird in the hand..... But Denver won't go for that trade, so it is probably the offseason.

Got an email from a good friend of mine this AM. (SOme background- he grew up in Maine - Celtics fan but also a strong Yankees fan, not a Sox fan. Mainly a great all sports fan who enjoys good players and good playing).

It’s fool’s gold to go after Carmelo with Fields. Keep Fields no matter what happens.

I agree. Keep Landry Fields Forever!

I'd trade both Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler before I trade Landry Fields. Carmelo Anthony replaces Chandler and I think Shawne Williams replaces a lot of what Gallinari contributes. We have nobody who does what Fields does and it's super hard to find players like him.

all you had to do was watcht the 4th qtr last night. Gallo is not only clutch but he's one of the higher BB IQ players we have had in years. He just hit a HUGE 3. He just took made a crafty move to draw a foul. He just took it to the rack to get more FTs. Then when the defense collapses on him next possesion he drives, draws them in and dishes to a wide open Fields who buries the 3 in what was the biggest basket of the game. Thats what Gallo is and what he does and what he can do.

Not to mention the guy he guarded who had been hot of late was held scoreless. If you didnt look at the box score you might think Mike Miller (a guy I like alot) didnt even play

Does he need to be more consistant? YES

Chandler and Fields cant do what Gallo did last night. Gallo's problem is he seems to get up for these big games against the stars but coasts against some of these others.

If you want to bring in Melo because he's a shiney new "star" then trade Gallo/Chandler/Fields for him and throw in AR as well. A team w/ Amare/Felton/Melo is probably a 2nd round team for a few years. We will win a few playoff games and pretend each year we have a shot at the finals.

If your serious about winning a title or at least competing for one and Melo is a part of that you better get something for Chandler this deadline, at least picks or a decent young bigman. Then you sign Melo in the offseason and you keep Fields and Gallo

Amen to that.

Anyone who watched Thursday night and does not agree with this point wasn't watching closely enough. The guy is a very rare find -- and he's only a rookie!!!!!!!!!!! Think about what his game may be like when he's 26 and has a few NBA seasons under his belt.

He's also a living advertisement for the benefits of playing four years in a major conference.

why wait till he's 26 when we can trade him now? He and Gallo are the same age

Yep, that's about all I'd offer as well. Gallo is a keeper, Fields is untouchable. We can sweeten the pot with Billy, picks, cash or whatever. Heck even Turiaf can go if we have something lined up to replace him.

Obvious now that Gallo + Chanlder for Melo is not too much.
