WTF! First off, there's so much crap being flung around this situation that it's to the point of being not worth the trouble to wade through and decipher. But IF it is true that he's made these statements, then he's either not even smart enough to read through the BS and/or is just trying lay ground work to justify getting traded to and signing with the swamp.

I still can't figure out why he'd want to play in Jersey with Billups and Rip (again, the man isn't the spark/player he once was) AND potentially Harrington...that's again no better than the Nuggets now, even a downgrade in the front court (talk about no D). Why would CP want to play there as well?

As I've said before, if he really wanted to be NY he could make it happen now or just wait. So, it's looking less and less like he really wants the Knicks.

Lovely. This is based on a new and different article regarding how Melo supposedly feels. I felt it warranted inclusion as a new spin on the topic. But please, send the thread starting guidelines so I don't upset you further.

In my opnion, all the Melo talks belong on a Nuggets board. I can't care less about him at this point, I root for the Knicks. Besides, the rumors are about the Nets, not the Knicks...

So honestly, I can't care lessa bout Melo at this point in time.

The article that I'm referring to is directly about the Knicks and Melo's supposed feelings regarding the Knicks' interest in acquiring him. But I understand your POV.

I'm interested just because if Melo gets on the Knicks, they become seriously legit immediately. But I do feel this... all the gossip reminds me of the Isiah Thomas era. I'd rather read the articles about Chandler being a good influence for the young Knicks and why the left corner is usually an open shot

Steve Bondy doing his best Berman impression. Don't worry, just an athlete being polite about the current momentum the Knicks got going.

did you see the video of the comments? He had a big wide grin the whole time...he was clowning. I have no doubt that he knows he's in control here.

I agree. That new Nets team would suck giant donkey dong. So you have to ask why Melo's people are pushing for a trade/extensions. Reason is that Melo switched his representation to Leon Rose. But his old deal was signed by someone esle and they're getting paid, not Rose. Rose is looking to cash in and that deal is what's best for HIM, not Melo.

I think Melo is kind of insinuating his plans to the Knicks through the media. A lot of this cryptic stuff ir what have you always seems to have a meaning more then face value.

And this isn't the stupid crap LeBron was doing for 2 years either.

Like Rookie said, Melo knows he has a large degree of control and is kind of letting the Knicks know the deal, imo. A lot of this stuff he says just seems to staged to me, it is too measured. Seems a lot of his output is with a wink and a nod.

the thought of him signing an extension with that roster is laughable at best....the NY mediaESPN would bring this up for the next 4 years cuz that team is going nowhere man. I have no doubt that Melo would rather play for a contender then become a punch line. What has changed since the summer when he made those comments at CP3's wedding...nothing. The media is just giving this story the Brett Favre treatment...rinse and repeat...spin...spin...spin....meanwhile, Melo has the look of the cat that just ate the canary. You can be sure that Amare and Melo are keeping this on the down low....Melo will be a Knick one way or another...of that you can be sure.

Melo is only slowing things down.

Every he says or reacts to is no being taken a part.

I agree he is saying what Amear is saying.

Wishful thinking that he if he comes NOW we'd be instant contenders. Are you forgetting what we would have to give up?

YOu see what the Nets are giving up? Shitty teams can give up lots of shoyt but the rule is you don't give up a winning team unless you can Jabbar, Chamberlin or other god. Melo is a better version of Glenn Rice or Glenn Big dog Robinson not Magic or Bird!

Knicks should do only one thing and thats access his true value and only pay what you want to pay for him. If thats cool with Denver its a deal. If not, and thats what is more real here then Melo has to apply leverage to get himself here.

That is what seems to be the case. He has the threat but has to be willing to exercise the opt out and no extension.

If he wants Knicks and extension he has to go to the deadline. Its important that the Nets remain a viable option to him. If he can't get knicks I think he'll go with the Money to Brooklyn than test free agency. IF thats the case his leverage is reduced and that is why the deal has been heating up.

Melo has to keep Nuggs feeling like he has a chance to stay then apply the leverage.

Really quite simple all this actually. Its Curry and Chandler for Melo. Someone is gettng screwed on all this.

We are going to need to get a 1st round pick..ala, trade Randolph to minny for a guard and a pick....Denver will include Harrington, which also replaces our depth at F with the loss of Randolph. You'll probably have to give up Douglass also and maybe some filler...that's the way I see it. Melo is their franchise player...he isn't going to come that cheap via trade and I tink that Curry/Chandler doesn't get it done, however, i do agree that when you are bidding you need to set your price 'ala' this is what I am willing to spend regardless if others want to bid higher...ala the Nets

I take your point but I do think you're exaggerating.

First, we don't know what we really need to give up to get him, and most of us propose sensible deals that don't clear the cupboard.

Second, while Melo is certainly no Lebron/Bird, he's also not a Crawford type who's never gotten anywhere. He led a vastly mediocre Nuggets team to the playoffs (after 17 wins the year prior) as a 19 year old, with a 21/6/3 statline. Again, that was at 19 and they've never missed the playoffs since.

Third, while his D is not as consistent as we might like, I've seen him play Kobe as tough as anyone, so the ability s there. Whether this is the coach to maximize his defensive potential remains to be seen, but that's equally true of anyone we might get.

Blueseats, ability is fine and good, but Melo has been in the league for how many years now? Kobe plays defense consistently as does LeBron. Melo is NOT dedicated to the defensive end at all and never has been and if it's been this long, he probably never will be. He just doesn't put the effort in, meanwhile Gallo and Chandler do, CONSISTENTLY.

To top it off, scoring isn't our problem. Melo is not a nesessity to this team.

Halfcourt scoring never goes out of style, especially in the playoffs. We've seen what happens when the PnR breaks down or Amare is smothered. And while I respect the consistency of effort, Chandler/Gallo's best does not yet equal Melo's best.

I keep in mind how MDAs system makes players look better than they are, and I don't totally expect it to carry over into the playoffs, where systems tend to level out and talent is decisive. However, while he can make budding stars into stars, he can also make stars into MVP candidates. So I wouldn't assume Gallo/Chandler's progress would continue upward while Melo's would remain flat, I'd expect Melo's superiority to remain constant.

Rice and Robinson at their peak were allstar max money players. They got the money then got unhealthy.

Im not dissing Melo, he is just not at that HOF franchise level.

Melo might not be all that bright either about how he handles his advisors.

That's fine. So why not just add him to free agency over the Summer then? At least if we are going to take away our cap flexibility, we can keep our trade assets while we do it. Maybe trade (Or sign and trade?) one of Gallo or Chandler for Deandre Jordan.

Jordan
Stat
Melo
Fields
Felton

Bench: Douglas, Chandler or Gallo, AR, Turiaf?, Mozgov, Hopefully Moz and AR could right themselves a little and one of them can actually be rotation players. God forbid both.

That's a contending team.
